The Red Lion, Southwick

Our Hash was going to use this place for the first time on Sunday 7th March. Having prewarned them some weeks back and then visited on Saturday, they were well aware of our likely numbers 15 to 30, we never know how many. On arriving on Sunday we were forbidden to use their car park and told that if there was more than 20 of us, the surplus would have to go to the Golden Lion down the road, With that attitude, we negotiated with the Golden Lion and decamped there. They were delighted to see us as all were drinking (I had three different pints of their six real ales) several were eating and they asked when we going back.
Libertaion, Reg's Tipple were two that I remember and of course the Southwick Brewhouse is right behind.

The Brushmakers Arms, Upham

We had a party of about 50 there last night on an organised event in the marquee over the garden. They did a good curry and a good chilli with all the trimmings for us as a party. Good selection of ales but.........................

BUT!!!! they wanted to charge me 2.20 yes 2.20 for a pint of lime and soda.

I objected at length that this was extortion of the highest order. The barmaid checked with the boss who I think was busy in the kitchen doing the finishing touches to our food and she said he said only 1.50 then. I objected but paid mainly as a lot of our party were desperate to get served in this lovely little pub.

The Pilgrims Inn, Marchwood

32 of us last night, after the run. All drinking, some a few drinks some only one, but good business on a Monday for any pub. Me and my buddy had 3 pints each of HSB for instance and our partners had 3 of various stuff. So why when one of the crowd ordered 3 bowls of chips for us all to share it cost 20 *****quid? Yes they were big bowls and nice chips but come on guys. Rip off, spoilt the taste of the evening. Downrated to 5 because of this.

The White Hart, East Cowes

We visited this very friendly little pub on May18th as it was the shortest walk from the excellent campsite known as Waverley Park. ( BTW This site is quiet, clean and with great views). On announcing we were camping there the landlady's partner, a rough hairy biker!! said the prices were up by 20%.
The few locals at the bar all chimed in with chat while my wife and I tried the local ales. It was latish anyway and soon there was only 5 in the bar. I never looked in the lounge.
It was really really friendly, a good boozers pub and I guess no food at any time. No airs and graces, false decor or pretences. Well worth going there rather than across the water, which we did the following night as part of an organised pub crawl from The Kingston Arms (Super little pub and well out of town) finishing at The Anchor (Hellishly crowded but they did have live good band on)
