The Rambler Country House, Edale

Has got consistently worse over the last 12 months or so - maybe a change of landlord, but as their name is no longer over the door it's hard to tell. Laughingly titled a "Country House" establishment ( they wish )it is the pits, rubbish beer, over-priced and pathetic food, ignorant bar staff ( one asked me, when ordering my 2nd pint, if i was driving as he couldn't let me buy another pint if so - which "ego planet" is he from, then ?? Driving or not driving ( I wasn't ) is NONE of his business )and too many signs demanding no walking on the carpet in walking boots, leave your rucksack outside etc.

Atrocious, simply atrocious

Old Coppers Malthouse, Church Stretton

very dull. shame that such a lovely "village" has 3 very unexciting pubs :-(

Housmans, Church Stretton

was dull under the old landlord and personally I don't think the new ones have done anything to write home about

Kings Arms, Church Stretton

Seems to suffer from regular changes of landlord, and very smoky inside. Food expensive and nothing special. Beer garden, though, is a real haven of peace and quiet, lovely, particularly in an afternoon. Only downside is, if you're a "solo traveller" it's a long walk to the bar and leaving a back-pack in the garden whilst you do it feels quite "risky". There again, carrying it back to the bar when getting a refill looks stupid !

The MacDonald Arms Hotel, Tobermory

As below, visited again last week (26/27 January 2006 ) and had a great Dinner and then, the next day, a great lunch. very reasonable prices, very friendly service, warm fire and very welcoming.

The Wheelhouse, Wollaton

the change of landlord has done nothing - even more 15 year olds hanging around, and the toilets are still disgusting, the beer is expensive.

Sunday night quiz is good though

Hemlockstone and Dragon, Wollaton

awful place, terrible decor, too many under-age drinkers, too much modern lager and no decent bitter

The MacDonald Arms Hotel, Tobermory

I visited in late january 2005 ( and will visit again in Jan 2006 )

Yes, basic and spartan but VERY welcoming ( it's a treat when a "stranger" enters a pub with a big rucksack and the place doesn't go quiet as everyone stares at you !)the food was wholesome and very reasonably priced ( I was on a budget)

very good, and I look forward to going again next month
