The Jovial Sailor, Ripley

visited recently, late sunday afternoon, had a nice pint and cold glass of wine, served quickly with a smile - just ordered some snacks which were a good portion and hot, pleasantly suprised all round, warm atmosphere, friendly staff, would return

The Anchor, Wisley

visited again after a long time away, thought it may have improved ! oh dear, alas not - still using the 'long queue' method to get served !!! lots of very young bar staff around ( it must have been half term ). we eventually ordered a couple of drinks and i ordered the special fish pie cobbler. we didnt wait too long for our food but when it did arrive the fish pie was more like a sample layer only filling about 1/3 of the dish. i returned it straight away asking for more...as sa wthat the manager was at the bar and thought ..'great it will get sorted', but instead he just said that's how it comes!
total lack of customer service, awful way to treat a genuine complaint.
was very unimpressed with his manner...ended up changing order to a cheeseburger cos rather than give me a larger portion, he just said he would replace with another item...total waste of food and very disappointing experience. if it wasnt for the riverside (ducks) location and playpark for my son, we would avoid like the plague

The Black Swan, Martyr's Green

i visited the black swan recently and was not impressed at all. yes i will mention the price - i dont mind paying over the odds for great food, well served in a nice warm friendly atmosphere - but alas this was not. food not much to talk about, quite nice but not worth the 18 i paid for the main course of fish, service was slow and not particularly friendly.
as for the gentlemans previous comment about getting his ale poured straight from the cask it was probably because the lines may not have been cleaned ! i was not offered this option !
overall, for a pub that apparently has spent 1 million on refurbishment a quite average experience

The King William IV, Horsley

visited again and enjoyed another great evening. had a saxophonist playing in the corner of the bar making a lovely atmoshpere, supplemented by the live log fire.
food very good again, tried the local rump steak this time, with peppercorn sauce - fantastic
well worth another visit soon

Sir Douglas Haig, Effingham

went here after being asked to leave the Barley Mow because they wanted to close early - nice alternative, warm welcome and beer tasted good, will return

The Barley Mow, West Horsley

pub is up for sale now and has started closing at random times, very annoying if you are going out at 8.30pm then they throw you out at 9pm !!!

The King William IV, Horsley

listening to radio five live last week we heard the owner chatting about the new no smoking law and decided to revisit again ! and even better than before - money has been well spent on the new garden decking and a much improved menu ( fajitas, goats cheese salad, share plates etc ). staff just as pleasant. had another great day there

The King William IV, Horsley

we visited this pub on a recommendation from a friend and indeed it was well worth it. we were taken to our seats in the restaurant and given a fabulous meal within our budget, staff were friendly and they had a pretty good wine selection.
the log fire was lit and they were getting ready for xmas - think we will go back soon !
