Shakespeare, Stoke Newington

I love this pub. Tucked away in a Stoke Newington back street with eccentric decor and an open fire in winter - theres even a walled pub garden for the smokers. Fantastic jukebox, good range of beers, laid back atmosphere and a lock in once in a while. You can order pizza from next door and eat it in the pub. Its a proper local without being threatening or exclusive. Can't see what anyone would find to dislike about it.

The Elk in the Woods, Islington

Wonderful looking pub which is completely wasted! Food was overpriced and fantastically bland (fish pie very boring) - how it manages to get booked up I don't know. Its pretty sad to see a nice pub in a good location failing to provide anything worth stopping for. If you like something sweet to finish your meal off, go across the road because the dessert menu is rubbish.

Three Crowns, Stoke Newington

yes, this place is expensive - and certainly its a bit galling to pay extra for yorkshire pudding and a coupleof quid for a lime soda. However, this was by far the best sunday roast I have had. Huge portions, tender, tasty roast chicken, very good veg. Pretty excellent. Considering most pubs these days charge 14 quid for a roast lunch - at least here you get a good meal for that. I highly recommend.

Crown and Goose, Camden

wow - what a disappointment! For a pub that claims to be have the best sunday roast in London: The roast chicken was incredibly bland, only two roast potates - and really the menu was very overpriced - gastropubs need to do a bit more than hike the price by five quid and look pretentious. Having said that the veg was well done and the portion size almost generous. The pub looks great on the inside, but worst of all the staff were surly (excluding the waitress who was friendly and did a good job). What a shame, this place used to be great.
