Callaghans, Russell Square

The staff were nice, the pub is a poky, plastic-wooden box with loud music and some high prices. It is inside a hotel though, so hotel bar prices shouldn't be a surprise.

The Garden, Islington

The new decor is a bit loud but the place is nice enough, as are the staff. On the downside, the Sunday lunch was over cooked and the bar had run out of limes for drinks? The staff did offer to go get some more so I really can't fault the service, just the chef and the person who orders supplies. One to drink and chat in, but maybe eat elsewhere.

Winchester Pub Hotel, Highgate

A very good pub. It's got a lot of space, some big tables (and some small ones) and does good food. No coffee machine though, it's a pub not a Starbucks. Stick to booze and mixers.

The Angel, Soho

An odd layout (or maybe just an old fashioned one?) this is a real, old pub. Go there to drink and actually hear the conversation you're having, unlike most London pubs.

Marquis of Cornwallis, Bloomsbury

Good food, nice staff, comfy sofas and a range of beers. The only issue is price, but it's not a cheap area. I like it, but can't always afford it.

The Beaufort, Hendon

I can't agree with the other reviews. I've had several meals, all good, and the service was always polite and helpful. They even returned some change I forgot about when I changed an order. It didn't disappear into someone's pocket. No it's not cheap, but despite all the moans about "council estates" this pub is used by the people in the pricey, private flats around it. The estate has it's own pub and the reinforced glass/police CCTV to go with it. This isn't that place. This is good.
