Pi, Chorlton

Pi probably doesn't have the best real-ale selection in the area, although it always has a few specials on, changing regularly. What it does have is one of the best beer selections anywhere in Manchester. If you ever have a hankering for a 14% Austrian Samichlaus or a refreshing James Boag from Tasmania, then this is the kind of place for you. As an added bonus they also serve pies, mash and mushy peas.

The New Oxford, Salford

One of the best real-ale pubs in Manchester. Also, if you get the chance, try it out during their Belgian beer festival, where they'll have up to 40 Belgian beers on draft. Well worth a try!

The Peveril Of The Peak, Castlefield

Unique little pub with Tardis-like qualities - still not sure how many sections are actually in it. Can get very crowded (and smoky), but they do a good pint of Guinness here and occasionally have some trad music. Definitely worth a visit.

Dukes 92, Castlefield

Duke's 92 looks great outside and in, with benches outdoors and lovely beams and antique-looking chairs in the bar. Unfortunately, this is where the positive points stop. When I went in it was pretty quiet, and although there were at least 6 staff working it took several minutes to get served with several more minutes spent looking for a corkscrew. This coupled with the fact that the draught beer selection was a bit poor, I won't be rushing back to this bar.
