The George Canning, Denmark Hill

The true indictment of the previous landlord of this place ( remember the one who blamed everything but himself ) comes from the Morning Advertiser and the the guy now running the George Canning.

"The 140K investment put into the George Canning was not just to upgrade the premises, a large proportion was spent on the removal of accumulated rubbish, the fumigation of rooms that were a disgrace, the in depth cleaning of a disgusting kitchen, all work that would not have needed doing if the previous landlord had any acceptable standards of cleanliness. I must emphasise that not all pubs that go under are like the ones that I have been involved with, but most are, and they are also the ones that groan the most. Come on, just admit that it's not what you expected and you thought it would be a case of opening the doors and custom would just materialise from the ether. You have to be 101% committed to have a chance of success and respect from your customers. "

And you people used to EAT in this place !!???

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Visited again recently and the transformation is astonishing. The place is clean, excellent food and coffee and that damned smell has gone at long last, can't remember what his name was though. The brewery obviously spent a lot of money on the place, most of it must have been on fumigating and delousing it.
Worth a look now.

Great to see that this pub will soon be under new management. Hopefully the successor to the incompetent fool who was running it will have a better appreciation of what customers require from a pub. Clean toilets will be an excellent start.

The Lower George Inn, Gloucester

I haven't been in this boozer for a while and its changed hands apparently.
Beer warm and flat, 'food' straight out of TV dinner hell. Little fat barman has had a charisma bypass. A pub to avoid.
