The Lower George was the only place with no real ale that we tried in Gloucestershire yesterday. There were a number of handpulls. But all of the clips were turned round. There was no real cider either. But the interior of this pub is lovely and traditional, with a few elderly locals enjoying the excellent hospitality. It was the landlady's birthday and she had a karaoke in the room at the rear. There were a few characters in here. Decent place. But a shame there were no ales.

Solid citizen of a pub that has a classical dark interior, a good range of high quality beers and won't break the bank. One quibble might be that on a late Friday afternoon/early evening when I visited some good background music aside it was a little flat in terms of atmosphere, but maybe it gets going later? Definitely worth a visit for at least one or two pints for the real ale lovers among you though.

Since the last review this pub has reopened under new management as the Lower George (although the former name also appears).
From our own experience of an early Saturday evening in late January 2014, we can safely say that this watering hole is maintaining a reputation for serving a range of real ales at quite sensible prices, with friendly service and a friendly atmosphere.
The only downside for us was that they were clearly getting ready for a local band to put on a gig, with the result that music played through the speakers was a bit intrusive, even in the front bar.
Needs more visits and reviews.

The Pig Inn The City has now gone bust (I'm guessing) - all shuttered up. So don't plan it into your itinerary!

Bit of a strange one.... Wide choice of ales and when we went about 4 real ciders on too, it seems to do well with local Camra lot. There are just some pissed up wrong uns in there. How many 60 year olds do you see wearing tags? We saw two! But if you can ignore them the beer is good!
