The Sunrooms, Southend-on-Sea

Food here is exceptionally good, and they have a varied menu. Beer is lagers but good lagers.

The Hayfield, Stepney Green

Good pub apart from the beer if that makes any sense?
I like ale, so I wasnt going to slate this place forthe lack thereof cos I know its a Scream pub. But last time I went in here, there was almost no beer? The place is decked out really well and is spacious with plenty of pool tables. Food was ok. Nothing spectacular but did the job. But the staff didnt speak much English and as I said, severe lack of beer, which is ridiculous. Other times Ive been here the selection was bog standard. But I would go again despite this cos of other factors mentioned.

The Old Globe, Stepney

I went here with a mate midweek in the afternoon and I thought this place was pretty poor. No ales on tap, terrible digital radio station playing loud intermittent music, atmosphere as flat as the lager I was forced to buy through lack of choice.

The Olde Smack Inn, Leigh On Sea

Ive never been one to allow the toilets effect my review too much. I mean Ive specifically come for a drink, not a tip out? This is the best pub in Old Leigh. You get served even in the summer and its got real character. They have a good jukebox, and personally I like the low lighting. Nice sea view from inside or out.

The Crooked Billet, Leigh on Sea

This is a nice pub and yes it is in a great setting etc etc. But its reputation is to the detriment of those who live in Leigh! Me included.

If there is more than a millisecond of sunshine, every man and his dog (literally sometimes) come and converge on this tiny pub and we cant get a bloody drink!

My mate used to work here and he says it really got on his wick when he opened the curtains in the morning to find it was a sunny day. Which is terrible but true.

The Grand Hotel, Leigh On Sea

Have to agree with the other fellah there. Whats the point of nice Victorian pub in a good area if theres never enough staff? The main bar is way too smoky (but that will all come to an end next summer). The big screens are...big. But the service spoils it.

The Royal Oak, Capel le Ferne

This is a very friendly pub in a nice part of Kent.
Nice beer fairly priced. Pool table. Beer garden. The thick sea mist was rolling in from the coast on one day I went which made for a nice atmospheric sup.
Another time I went was FA Cup final day and the landlord made chicken drunsticks and sandwiches to go round which was very appreciated. Recommended boozer!
