The White Buck, Burley

Lovely pub, nice grounds, excellent walks from. HOWEVER, the food is very expensive and not good value for money. Example 1. Whitebait as a starter over 6. About 15 small whitebait served in a half pint mug mostly filled with the faux fish and chip type paper, half a tomato cut into two pieces, Two tiny shreds of lettuce and a pot of mayo on a tiny 'chopping board'. Example 2. About two pieces of ham, EGG and chips, 11.95. I rest my case! Pimms well over 4 a glass.

Horse Guards Inn, Petworth

Just spent a night here. Excellent, very quirky, friendly locals, good food, nice, efficient staff. Highly recommended. Wish it was my local.

The Royal Oak, Downton

I regularly eat and drink at this pub. It is much better since Michael took over and sorted it out. The new chef seems to be doing well and the staff are friendly and helpful.

The Newport Inn, Braishfield

I visited this pub today, full of enthusiasm, having read the reviews. Perhaps, if I had gone in the evening, it would have been better but, oh, what a disappointment. Yes, it is full of old stuff and, as someone, else said, had it been full, I may have felt differently but, character is not abject neglect. We sat in the garden which didn't look as if it had seen a pair of secateurs for years with trails of brambles trying to escape from overgrown bushes. Flower beds full of weeds and the garden furniture had to be seen to be believed. Months, maybe years of grime had accumulated on tables and chairs. Junk was dumped between the garden near the car park and the garden near the entrance. To be fair, the beer was okay and inside seemed quite clean but surely a couple of days clearing up outside would make a world of difference. The young man serving at the bar, looked as if he would rather be on the moon but, then, maybe his exam results weren't quite what he expected and he envisaged spending his working life at this pub.

House Martin, Barton on Sea

Food good and service. A little austere when it doesn't have many customers but staff are friendly and it is warm.

The Amberwood Inn, Walkford

Used to eat here a lot but prices have gone up and portions and choice have gone down. 8.95 (or thereabouts) for a three egg omelette? I don't think so. Having said that, the musical entertainment is brilliant and BJ on New Year's Eve was outstanding value.

The Walkford, Walkford

This is an excellent eatery, decor not the best in the world but food is good and very well priced. Staff are always very helpful and polite. Menu gets a bit boring if you eat there a lot.

We visit this pub quite often for an evening meal. Always found the food pretty good and the staff are generally friendly. Having just moved to the area, we will be taking friends to this pub.

The Kings Head Inn, Lymington

Been visiting this pub since Paul first took over. He is the ultimate landlord. Friendly, always aware of what if going on around him. Best run pub in Lymington. Food is excellent.
