| I would not advise going here for a meal. Medium Rump steak not slightly pink or even red but actually uncooked, you knoww the dark red slightly jelly like look. As I was waiting for my replacement I thought that did not look like a rump cut, my partner's steak was more rare than medium but OK , not, still did not look or taste quite right. Replacement came and it looked like a cheap thin frying steak, I asked the waitress to stay even with the steak knife the chef left me it was hard to cut , it was overcooked, fatty and the chips were twice its thickness. I did get a refund but that was a ruined evening out. IMHO the "chef" was put out so he picked the worst piece of meat and override it. I suspect the steak knife was his joke , the normal cutlery was plain knives. The bar manager made some excuse about they could not tell how they would cook and it may have been a bad batch. Well a chef could tell by looking if the steak was and any experience would allow him to grill a piece of meat. I asked if he was a chef shejust replied has been here a year, after a year cooking steaks would think he could get it right at least 1 in 2 tries. Poor meal, chef having a laugh, even poorer excuses. Jerry_m - 6 Jan 2012 08:41 |
| We were there in July 2009 (sorry so late in posting!) We loved the food and the Greene King Abbotts ale. Very impressed with quality and service then. Liked the bar deco (comfy and trad) The tennis finals were on and we could watch while eating in comfort............perfect! Returned a couple of times for drinks and sat in garden, again, perfect. Would love to go again if in that area. bobec - 2 Jul 2011 17:58 |
| Management seem to have abanoned ship here as you never see them....although the staff seem to cope with running the place so maybe thats why.... regulars rewards mean lots of cheap pints between 5-7pm but unfortunately means the barstools are all packed out with peasants that think they should not have to move so you can reach your served pints!!!! we are now taking to going in after 8pm...that way all the cheap beer purchasers have usually left and standard of politeness around the bar tends to improve! | Had a good meal and a couple of pints at a reasonable price. Went in early to avoid the rush. trebor1 - 21 Jan 2010 21:07 |
