The Castle, Holborn

Two reviews for the price of one! Thanks Lee.
Mr Ambassador. With these 2 reviews you are really spoiling us!

Well said bedfont. I sampled 4 different beers on my last visit here and they were all flat and out of condition. There was even a group of east London CAMRA people in but they failed to notice the poor quality of the beers. All the regulars drink lager. Fifteen years into this venture and they still remain staunchly anti real ale. The owners still haven't got the message. On one of my visits a 'regular' was reading Handgun Monthly at the bar.

There's no denying that this is very good pub. Lack of music, good honest food and decent clientele considering the scum that you see coming out of the jc across the road.
My only problem is that I like real ale very much and the ale here is clearly chosen by someone who doesn't drink real ale. Perhaps a suggestion board which customers could make requests on would be a good idea as I've visited this pub on a few occasions and never fail to be dissappointed by the ale choice.

Beer always good quality. I'd still like to see Harvest Pale back as a regular though. Or even Hophead.
Don't take the barman who looks like Chris Moyles too seriously. He's likes a bit of good natured banter with the customers.

't Brugs Beertje, Bruges

This isn't that great a pub. I was in there at 19.30 on 29th December and it was full of non spending tourists with children. It felt nothing like a pub. Service was quite good though, from a bloke who calls himself Daisy!

Henri Prouvin, Amsterdam

I'm sorry to report that it closed a couple of years ago. Maybe Amsterdammers just don't like superb wine and food.

I went in there recently following a disappointing visit to the Bree Louise. This was slightly better but I was sorry to see that neither Hophead or Harvest Pale were on. When I asked someone who appeared to be the manager when Harvest Pale would be on, he said he hadn't heard of the beer. Worrying times ahead I reckon.

It's not that great a pub! Beer quality is fine but the beer range tends to be playing it pretty safe. Comments by SuzanneB70, handy72 and gopher72 cannot be taken seriously as they appear to be connected with the pub. Otherwise they would have posted reviews of other pubs but this is the only one they felt strongly enough to write about. It doesn't fool me or any of the other genuine pub goers who read these pages. So please kazzcraz, just concentrate on giving the customers what they want. Thanks.

Onder de Ooievaar, Amsterdam

I agree with Monopoly it's a great locals pub. Good range of beers and tasty food in addition to what has already been said. I'd chosen not recommend it as I didn't want everyone to know about it. I don't think Lee Newton would like it though.
