The Star and Anchor, West Ealing

Went here last night, had a good pint of Deuchar's autumn beer (Mellow Yellow perhaps). Good number of beers on tap (though only two ales), and a large selection of wines. Food is relatively cheap for the area, and am looking forward to trying it. They have various deals during the week I believe.

Kevin the landlord is very friendly and seems keen to make a go of it. Will definitely return.

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

This pub is a textbook example of one that does so many things right, and so, so many things wrong. On the plus side, it has a good selection of real ales, and an interesting layout. Fine, good.

The bad's. Well, when visited last Saturday night the mens' toilets were flooded, the cubicle out of order, and there was no soap to be seen. Just terrible. Music far too loud, bar staff inattentive, and I've had one of the most dire 'steak and ale' pies my entire life. Mushrooms and sauce do not a pie make guys. If you want a pub you can enjoy, go to the Richard I up the road.

The Castlebar, West Ealing

Nice, busy pub. Pity the only real ale is Adnam's Broadside (oddly served chilled). A tad expensive though.

Ashbys, West Ealing

I echo Tiny's comments from last year - it's a bizarre pub. Nice decor, reasonable location, but, the bar staff are unwelcoming, and the 6X I had (which I usually adore) the other night was poorly kept. My wife and I drop in about once every year or so to see if it improves. Sadly it does not. It's got serious competition in the much better (but more expensive) Castlebar across the road. I want to like Ashby's, but I can't.

The Star and Anchor, West Ealing

This has now reopened as of last Thursday. Still no real ale, but very cheap drinks, especially as compared with the Castlebar next door. Looks like the new landlords are trying to make a good go of it and I hope they're successful.
