The Chequers, Watlington

A pub that you feel you can drink in without being made to feel that you are taking up valuable eating space. This pub used to be a stuffy, pretentious and overpriced gastro pub. It now serves good beer and good food, and is welcoming and family-friendly.

The Carriers Arms, Watlington

The only pub in Watlington serving decent pints of reasonably priced real ales other than Brakspear.

The Five Horseshoes, Maidensgrove

One of the best things about this pub, apart from the outstanding views and location, is that you can eat there OR drink there. Unlike most pubs in the area, you can simply go there for a beer, even at busy times, without feeling that you are intruding in some upmarket restaurant. There needs to be more pubs like this.

The Victoria, Earl Soham

Surely this is what pubs are supposed to be like, aren't they? Outstanding ales from their own brewery and honest-to-God homecooked food, with no frills and no frilly prices in a non-pretentious, friendly pub. Go there.

The Brewers Arms, Rattlesden

Awesome pub with a great atmosphere, especially now the rightful landlord and landlady have returned, much to the delight of the whole village. This pub is a must, and the food is incredible - not your usual pub fayre at all.

The Fox and Grapes, Wimbledon Common

Drink there, but don't eat there. The beer is marvellous, and a great variety of it too, but the food was dreadful for a lot of reasons - overcooked, overpriced and took 2 hours to get to the main course. When we complained, we were told we were being "unreasonable". I won't be going back.
