The Rock, Chiddingstone Hoath

we live in nearby Edenbridge and have been to The Rock several times lately. It has become our favourite pub. Great beer from Larkins - either Traditional or Platinum Blond. It's just a great relaxing little place tucked away in a small village. Very friendly staff. Have yet to eat there but it won't be long before we give it a try. Fantastic!

Royal Oak Inn, Staffhurst Wood

I've been here 4 times now and the beer is always good.
The best thing about this pub though was the cosy 'public' bar on the right as you go in with a large open fire, which had some character.....But oh dear, on our last visit we discovered they've built a new dining extension which has opened up this bar along with some other "improvements". It appears to be turning into some Harverster-type eaterie.

The food yet again was disappointing. My steakburger resembled and tasted like a Birds Eye frozen quarter-pounder and despite the "local" provenance, my wife's steak was average at best.
What really grates though is what they charge for these dishes - 17+ each!

I have no problem paying for quality food but what they serve here does not justify these prices.
It's actually cheaper to each at The Hare & Hounds in Lingfield where the food is far, far better and not frozen.
After two previous disappointments with the food, we definitely won't be eating here again.

The Bottle House, Penshurst

Must admit I can't understand the rave reviews for this pub. It's pretty enough looking on the outside and in a lovely setting, but the interior/decor has a tired look in need of a spruce up.
The beer was good but the food was decidely average.
My suspicions were alerted by the vast choice of dishes on the menu.
No way can these all be cooked fresh, and that was confirmed when our meals arrived. My sausages were appeared pre-cooked then microwave reheated. My wife's meal was not much better.
Big disappointment - won't be returning.

The Fox and Hounds, Toys Hill

I'm a little baffled by the two previous reviews.
My wife and I have been here 3 times recently and found it to be a lovely pub.
The landlord has been nothing but friendly and accomodating.
The food is good without being fussy and not IMO, overpriced.
Steak & Ale pie is excellent.
Good beer too.

The White Horse Inn, Edenbridge

Friendly Shepherd Neame pub that serves good beer, although a little lacking in atmosphere.
Well cooked excellent simple food.

The King and Queen, Edenbridge

Popped in for a pint on Saturday evening.
Cosy enough pub with decent beer but impossible to escape from the 'club' music (playing way above background level) through various speakers dotted around.

Looking at the clientele, I couldn't figure out for whose benefit it was being played ???
