Callaghan's Irish Bar, Piccadilly

Hateful. Avoid at all costs. This is an extreme distillation of the oirish bar. Full of tourists who know no better and non-tourists who should know better.

If you like this bar you have no soul.

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Visited on matchday. Found it to be quite welcoming. Staff were friendly and efficient, which was good seeing as how busy it was.

Also was/is in the midst of a real ale / stout festival. Tried the London Porter and a few O'Hanlons stouts. All very agreeable wot wot.

Will be back for more anthropological study of this mythical creature known only as 'the sloane'.

Extra Time, Barbican

Terrible. There is no other way to put it. Was there for the footy last night. And I think the 'extra time' name refers to the 'extra time' it'll take you to get served. Only 2 barmen on the main bar for what was probably the highest profile footy night of the year.

The owner needs to realise that door staff are required for nights like last night. The place was overcrowded to point of being dangerous. And even overlooking the safety aspect his takings would have been down because once the match got started it was so packed people couldn't move to get to the bar.

Avoid like the plague.

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Superb little pub. Little is the word. Can get crowded most nights with Friday being the worst.

It's gotta be said. If you want a random after work bar in which to drink random after work lagers. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Leave this for people who'll actually appreciate the fine St Peters ales on offer.

And the pork scratchings aint bad either.

Brockley Jack, Brockley

Thought I should add, the quality of picture on the big screen is awful. Very faded image.

If you're going for the footy and it's a big game, get there early and bag a spot in front of the plasma screen at the opposite end of the bar to the big screen, it can get quite crowded.

Especially when 'the mighty Chelski' are playing. Of course I've always supported them. Even before they bought the league. And I've been a Chelsea pensioner since the age of 3. etc etc....

The Marquis of Granby, Westminster

If the Marquis is the best pub in the world then I'm a monkeys uncle. Oo oo.

It's canny to fall into if you're DEFRA or work for a well known IT company... But not worth the effort of getting there if you're not in the area.

And to be fair it's not THAT hard to keep Stella and Fosters

And. Smirnoff Ice. Dear oh dear oh dear.

Jam Circus, Brockley

Went in for the first time the other night. Not a bad place. Good range of beers, friendly staff, and we weren't rushed outta there at 11 on the dot. Which is always nice.

Brockley / Crofton Park is crying out for some decent bars. And this fits the bill. Not an out and out boozer like the Brockley Jack. And not as cappucino-lite as Moonbow Jakes.

I'll be back...

Brockley Jack, Brockley

Just a bland chain pub. Can be quite localsy and it's got a high loon quotient. I use it for the footy and that's about it.

Wouldn't recommend for females on their own unless you like the amorous attentions of inebriated idiots.

And the last time I was in someone put the Cr*zy fr*g song on the jukebox, which says it all really...
