Bonhommes Bar, Filey

In the Bonnehomme again this weekend. A gem of a pub. This time saw Tetley, Titanic Stout, Everards IPA, Yorkshire Gold, and their house beer all on draft (that I can remember).

Keep up the good work.

The Garden Gate, Hampstead Heath

Been to this pub twice in the last 6 weeks due to convenient location near Hampstead Heath Station. This week they had Adnams, Landlord plus a summer guest beer on tap, all kept very well. Food is good, although didn't come out of the kitchen at the same time. That said, the bar staff couldn't have been more apologetic about the f-up. Big garden with eclectic furniture, large comfy sofas, and really not very crowded at all. Overall 7/10.

The Prince of Wales, Pimlico

Nice benches outside on a quiet side street away from the traffic, lovely pint of Pride, very low-key, just gets on with the business of being a decent boozer with no fuss or attention-seeking gimmicks.

The Carlisle Arms, Soho

[CLOSED]

M&B sold the pub and it closed its doors last week in Feb. The end of a very long era. No firm news about any possible reincarnation, rumours of restaurants, wine bars and even flats abound. The wake saw regulars who could recall every landlord / lady since around 1975, not bad loyalty for the centre of soho. Sorely missed.

The Wellington, Waterloo

Pleasantly surprised, as not been here for a few years. Marstons' Burton Bitter was very fresh. Place was Sunday-evening-slow but the Al Murray landlord ("The shandy must be for the lady, don't let him get you drunk now...") was discretely charming and concerned about our bags and general wellbeing. Not yet a rival for the hole in the wall but still well worth a pint.

The Nicholas Nickleby, Stroud Green

Glad to see the Nick rediscover a bit of its former character - I was worried for a while. Bar Billiards is back, the dart board was playing host to a lazy game of killer, draught Bass is an increasingly rare pleasure in London these days, all in all a no-nonsense, quiet back-street local. Just don't come with preconceptions or pretensions and you'll be fine.

The International Bar, Edinburgh

Went here on Saturday, early eve. The barman saw us both reading books and sat down to nudge us into a more lively mood. Amusing, if misplaced. Berated me for asking about decent chippies, saying that my gf deserves better! Nice atmosphere, average beer.
