Brambletye Hotel, Forest Row

This pub's had its ups and its downs however with new management and new ideas, this is definitely worth checking out. Its smart inside without being pretentious and the staff are friendly and chatty. The beer ranges are good with Harvey's on the go plus the occasional guest beer. The food looks good using local produce however beyond that I can't comment as we haven't eaten there yet. What is outstanding is the entertainment. Sunday night's you'll hear the best jazz outside London - the attract some incredible acts. Thursday nights they have a jam session for the local musicians and on Friday they usually have one of the better local bands doing a set. Music makes this pub

The Royal Oak, Newick

Nice friendly pub, well kept beer plus cheerful bar staff. They usually have a nice open fire burning so a nice place to park your freezing self during the Autumn and Winter months. They do offer food which looks impressive, is on the expensive side and not particularly remarkable. Its possible they've had a change of Chef as their food service used to have more of a flair about it. We had a home made burger and Cottage Pie; both tasted a little on the bland side.

The Griffin Inn, Fletching

The restaurant here has to be one of the best I've been to in a long time. We were booked for arguably one of the most busy times on Easter Monday and grabbed the last table. In spite of the fact that the place was heaving, the service was personal, friendly and efficient. The menu changes daily but our starters - Wild Garlic Soup and Seared Scallops were respectively fresh and full of flavour whilst the seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. The Roast Lamb and Slow Roasted Belly of Pork were both likewise perfect. The pub is always busy mainly with locals or those from the neighbouring villages - surely a good sign. The atmosphere is very friendly, warm and chatty. I would agree that the food is expensive, both in the bar and in the restaurant however with the quality of the cooking, service and presentation you would expect a heavier than normal bill. For food if your taste is basic Ploughmans or Chicken in a Basket then don't go to the Griffin; if you like places with a buzz, good beer, excellent food and professional friendly service then the Griffin's for you
