The Toll Bar, Nottingham

stopped here almost by accident after nottingham's otherwise excellent beer festival, er, ran out of beer. quite a Surprise. 5 handpumps, serving 1 real cider and 4 loc-ales, inc lovely pint of blue monkey organgrinder.

The Gun, Keyhaven

well... beer garden always a welcome thing, bar billiards increasingly rare and a pleasure to find... but 3.35 (three pounds thirty five) for a pint of hobgoblin takes the breath away.

Cellars, Scarborough

good selection of regional ales, inc riggwelter for the brave. not town centre, but walking distance comfortable enough.

Indigo Alley, Scarborough

drpped by on a recommendation. if you like nicotine-stained, 1980s' heavy rock-themed bars where you can't hear what your friends are saying i recommend it to you in turn. othrewise: avoid.

The Plough, Little London

an unspoiled gem in an area dominated by big private houses that used to be good rural pubs plus yer 3.50 pint / non-dining drinkers just about tolerated-type places you find too many of in the comfy home counties.

this place has ale from the barrel, bar billiards and a good feel. lovely woodland walking on doorstep too.

no evening buses out here, buses on main road (mile and half or so) or bramley station couple of miles off.

Neeld Arms, Grittleton

4 ales inc 2 guests - hpa and cornish coaster on my visit

close to castle combe and badminton but UTTERLY lacking in the ponceyness (with prices to match) this might imply

good veggie food

a good welcome

The White Hart, Oare

beer - 2 available (inc ramsbury) out of season - both tip top

accommodation - good value - 25 for small, comfortable single

splendid veggie food menu, def not standard chain pub fayre

from the accents you can guess the hosts are not wiltshire locals!

good hillwalking from doorstep (but beware of traffic when crossing that horrible road)
