The John O'Gaunt, Lancaster

I've rated this pub as poor as it's a mere shadow of its former self. The pub is generally unkept and tired, it's one thing to attempt to be "authentic" - it's another just to be scruffy. The new owner hasn't advanced the place one inch, still selling "Bambi Burgers" and still employing the same desperately slow bar staff. In my opinion it's become a parody of itself.

The George and Dragon, Lancaster

Sorry - this is a hugely dull pub with cheap farmhouse furniture and a bland characterless bar. Nothing pub.

The Bobbin, Lancaster

Steady, unspectactular pub that has seen many an upgrade but is still a shadow (in business and stylistic terms) of what it was in the late 80s, early 90s. Music is generally far too loud.

The Sun Hotel and Bar, Lancaster

I read some of the reviews below and I hardly recognised this pub. This is my "local" and is roundly regarded as one the finest pubs in the UK (the walls of the place are crowded with plaques recognising National and local awards). The beer is lauded by Lancastrians as the best in the area, the food is exceptional and the place is always busy often with people who have made a special journey to visit. It has its flaws but generally this is a very special pub that seems to illicit odd reviews on this website.
