The Queens Head Hotel, Troutbeck

The range of beers are still as in the review below this one, but I agree that they are well kept. Two roaring fires in the winter are very welcoming. Great centuries old inn and the food here is excellent. Always visit for lunch when I'm in The Lakes, which is almost once a month. Sausage and mash is very good as is the fish n chips - small portion of chips though but two large fish fillets make up for it. Well worth a visit!

The Village Inn, Bowness on Windemere

Recently been totally made over...silver interior!? Friendly, helpful staff with a decent range of home and guest ales. Not eaten here for about 12 months but it was very nice a year ago.

The Hole int' Wall, Bowness on Windermere

My local...even though I live over 80 miles away. I agree that the regulars come first but that's not a bad thing, at least for the locals! It's regulars that keep pubs afloat in these days of austerity. Great beers, especially the Double Hop and the food is excellent. Cumberland sausage and colcannon mash are to die for! Staff are very friendly even if they do tell us off for being too loud when the lads are up with me (Sorry Suzi, we'll keep it down!) Great place to chill out and get soused in on a quiet day.

John Peel Inn, Bowness on Windermere

Well, I'm not a local....yet, but I've yet to have a bad time in this pub. I've always found the staff to be friendly and the licensee and his wife are more than welcoming. I once had a pint here, which was poured with a rather head and and landlords wife came and took it away saying "we don't do big heads like that in here" before topping it up properly. I was in there last week and the roaring fire and staff made it a very warm place indeed. The landlord knows how to keep a good pint in the John Peel and the guest beers are great. I know that some people have said they've had a disappointing time in here but I can only say that my visits here have been very enjoyable and I for one, will definitely be going back....the 'Christmas' guest ales are worth a visit alone!
