The Lyric, Soho

I popped in on Friday the 10th May and was quite excited to see that the pub has now been transfromed into a 'Craft Beer Bar' style pub. Apparently the change was made about two weeks ago. A new oasis of ggod beer in Soho. I'd normally use one of the many Nicholsons.

It was the first time I have ever been in, so it was obviously some stroke of luck for me, being a regular at the Euston Tap etc. Beers on tap that day were from Harbour, Blue Monkey, Dark Star and a few others. The fridges contained Kernel and a few others like it. Camden Hells for the lager boys. the bargirl was quite keen for me to try several beers before I bought - I wasn't complaining!

I intended to have one, but stayed for 2 hours and had 4 or 5 pints. Mainly as I ended up chatting to half the pub and football and life in general. That's the point of a good pub right? Give it a try would be my advise.

The Post Office Arms, Boxmoor

Good boozer this. The best in Boxmoor anyway. I've been popping in for a year or so and the welcome is always friendly. The Beers are always the same -HSB and Pride. It would be nice to have another Fullers one in on draught. They do sell Golden Pride in bottles though. Which is a nice touch. A good place to watch football if you're into that sorta fing!

The Six Bells, Wick

When pubs write their own reviews like this, it devalues the whole site. Why would a load of people all come on here on one day and post bland favourable comments and then never post anything again? I was thinking of visiting, but the early comments (the ones by patrons rather than staff and management) are less than favourable.

Fishery Inn, Boxmoor

The Fishery Inn has just re-opened and I have to say it is much improved. The drinks range is better and there are none of the surly, ruddy faced trackie bottom wearing regulars that used to come in.

I went on the opening night, which was a private opening and got a bit worse for wear. There is a great lager there, which is brewed in (I think) Suffolk. 5.2% and with bags of hoppiness. Worth a try (and not a beer I'd seen before), although the 3.90 price might put some off. But, what the hell, people pay 3.20 for Fosters and I'd rather pay for a drink which has a discernable flavour.

Nothing too exciting on the handpumps, but it's still early days. Well, some may find Greene King IPA and Bombadier exciting, but some people watch motorsports...

Oh, the food is pretty good now too, especially the Fish. Which is apt.
