The Orange Tree, Altrincham

Excellent pub. We hold a fishing club meeting upstairs a couple of times a year in the sports themed room. Very comfortable. Good staff and the beers pretty good too. Nice beer garden at the back as well. Recommended.

The Spread Eagle Hotel, Lymm

Lees beer quite well kept. Part of the pub really should be considered a restaurant and is quite popular but there are a couple of vault type rooms in the other side where you can concentrate on your pint. Interesting beer 'garden' out back with rock face illuminated at night. Pleasant atmosphere despite one or two of the local business types considering the bar area their own.

The Farmers Arms, Fishguard

Hard, nay impossible to review the beer really. Went in last September but couldn't get served. Bar not that busy but I could have stood there all night whilst the bar'maid' served every local who stood behind me and steadfastly ignored my requests. My fault for being English I suppose......although I know a couple of proper pubs where Welsh is spoken as the norm and I get great, friendly service. Must be a local thing to Fishguard.

Penhelig Arms Hotel, Aberdyfi

Hmmm..having dined and drunk at this pub a number of times over the last 8 years I can't agree that the Brains takeover was a good thing. Same for the Dovey Inn down the road.

The Barn Owl Inn, Lymm

Hmm..sometimes voted best pub in Lymm but hard to see why. Last visit and the place stopped dead when a mate & I walked in (non-regular-possible-copper reaction from the 'residents'). Even the circumferentially challenged karaoke lass missed a high note. Oddly cliquey place, average ale but nice views over the canal. Suspect most of the 'locals' are from the nearest 'overspill' where all the pubs have been closed over the years due to violence and alternative medicine sales.

Railway, Heatley

Was closed last time I passed. Went severely downhill when the old landlord left a couple of years ago taking his ceiling mounted air filters and cellar skills with him. Real shame as it used to be a proper pub with a snug, lounge, pool rooms, darts room and NO CHILDREN in some rooms (excellent!). The replacement landlord was a right miserable so and so who would rather watch his cronies playing poker than keep/serve good ale. Damned shame as this was once a fine watering hole with good ale and bar food limited to basic rolls and pickled eggs!
