The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

I just got back from Totnes (see The Bay Horse), and if the Guide Dog hadn't been here, I don't know where I would have gone to find a pint presented in the way the craft brewers intended. The landlord continues to serve perfect pint after perfect pint. Still 10/10.

The Bay Horse Inn, Totnes

The best kept secret in the west country! The quality of the beer was of benchmark-setting standard. Bright, fully conditioned, perfect. A warm welcome and a fantastic pint. 10/10.

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

This boozer is going from strength to strength. I can't think of anything missing that could make it better. Brilliant staff, great range of superbly well-kept beers, no TV, background music, daily papers and a welcoming clientele of locals. 10/10 - a benchmark.

The Waterloo Arms, Freemantle

Things have changed! The new landlady and landlord have brought the pub back to being a friendly, welcoming local. A good range of Hop Back and guest beers makes this well worth a revisit if you have been disappointed in the past.

The Snakecatcher, Brockenhurst

Popped in for a quick one yesterday. Ringwood Best was good, if expensive. The whole place smacks of pretension and ideas above it's station. Won't be back.

The Wellington Arms, Southampton

A new lease of life after Bob now runs free of tie. Fabulous beer range, well kept. A gem of a pub.

The Waterloo Arms, Freemantle

Has undergone too many changes to maintain it's position as the best real ale outlet in Southampton. Overtaken by the Wellington Arms and The Guide Dog. Beer quality has changed.

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

Fantastic beer, well kept. Good crowd and the landlord & lady are just right for this classic local boozer. Worth travelling to visit for the beer range alone. 8 handpumps, all good.
