The Hoop and Grapes, City Of London

Um, well I'm actually a girl, but there we go! I guess if you hate it so much then simply leave the pub to those who do like it.

It's not dirty and the bar staff are neither surly or bored! Is this the same pub we're going to? :s

Hmm, I would have to entirely disagree. Having drunk here for many years (!!!! ;-) it has gone through a few changes, namely the ownership. I think Tracey the new landlady and her partner has really made an effort with the place, smartening up the interior and courtyard (new additions include two deckchairs to soak up the sun!), the food is lovely, and it seems to be buzzing these days. Last Friday they had a BBQ on the go and they're just starting a cider festival and there's been plenty of other events which it seriously lacked before.

Went here over Easter for some lunch, and it was excellent. I had lovely muscles in white wine sauce, and my boyfriend had the pork and it was very impressive - also under 20 for both of us!!! But it's not just the food that's impressive in this pub, the staff as mentioned above are genuinely interested and passionate about the place, it's a real pub, not a bloody gastropub, and it has proper locals and characters. I miss these pubs, there's too few of em about these days! Lovely location as well, tucked away amongst the houses. Will definitely visit again! :)

Again, I would ignore all these horrible attacks on this wonderful pub. Mike is second to none as a landlord, and he and his staff go beyond and above the call of duty to make sure you are looked after in all aspects. I would even go as far as to say that the staff are THE best in London! My boyfriend and I were there one night and despite the kitchen about to close one of the barmen asked us if we would like anything to eat. I almost fell off my stool, usually around London the kitchen would close early and the chef would be running so fast out the door there would be flames in his path like the Delorean in Back to the Future. I have had some superb nights there, and despite living half way across London will always come back here. Long live the Hoop and Grapes! :) A whopping 10 out of 10 from me!!!!

Willow Walk, Victoria

Average 'Spoons, I do wish there was some decent pubs in Victoria near the station. Burgers were cold, although you're never really there for the food in a Spoons! Also, terrible barman... aggressive, rude, literally threw us out on the streets before drinking up time.

Wilmington Arms, Exmouth Market

I have to agree with Baader after visiting the pub last night for a couple of beers. Harmless man, slightly drunk and eccentric was pushed out by idiotic fashion boy behind bar. When he served me he was more concerned with looking over my shoulder at said drunk and scowling, no eye contact at all (maybe I was deemed too unfashionable for the area, which can be renown for its advertising types, spotted a few in the pub with Pete Doherty hats all chortling about how brilliant they are) mumbling for my money and pulling a frankly piss poor pint of Budwiser before returning to his 'decks' behind bar. I had better service at the Exmouth Arms down the road than this place, and although the Exmouth's toilets haven't seen a cleaner in a couple of years, the Irish barman there at least is friendly and makes chat. Dunno why I'm expecting good service in a pub posing as a living room anyway. On the plus side, they did play a bit of Joy Division.

The Cobden Arms, Camden

Really great pub. Good atmosphere and music, and a lovely landlord. Haven't been to Camden since my teenage years, but would definitely come back here.

The Hope and Anchor, Camden

Reading past reviews about this pub, I am shocked to see that the same Landlord works here. Visited the pub on Saturday night with a few friends, and enjoyed a perfectly nice pint, and apart from the scary looking locals who had apparently been drinking since the pub opened, we experienced no trouble.

Until closing time that is and I went to visit the toilets. As has been mentioned several times before, the door was blocked by an extremely drunk fellow who I can only assume was 'in charge' (so he slurred to me) One of the toilets was broken, but the other one fine, but rather than let me use that one, I got a torrent of bad language and a fistful of aggressiveness. As a woman, having a man who clearly shouldn't be served more alcohol than he can take, shouting at your face mere inches from your own, wasn't a pleasant experience. Suffice to say I returned to my table, put on my coat and left with my friends vowing never to return to the place again.

I simply do not understand the stupidity of management, regardless of whether they're working or not, drinking to such an excess that surely they must know that it really isn't a good advertisement for your pub.

In the end I used the loo in a lovely Irish pub around the corner with a charming landlord who even got us a cab back to the sticks for us when we left. Perhaps this neanderthal thug of a landlord could learn from his example.

Awful place, and avoid at all costs unless your looking for a fight.
