I have lived and worked in the Clerkenwell area all my life. On Sunday 21 August i decided to show my friend around some of the pubs in the area. We went into the wilmington and ordered a bloody mary for my friend, when he brought the drink back to the table it was full of white floating bits, which looked like off milk. we went back to the Bar and was told that the barman had put Horse Radish sauce in his drink. My friend said that this was not the way to mix this drink, to then be told by the very rude barman that he had been a coxtail barmen for three years and that was the way it should be mixed. We insisted that we wanted another drink, which was given to my friend reluctantly. We finished are drinks and left. I would never again wish to drink in this Pub. I own three bars of my own, and have for 25 years. The staff are rude, Aragant, and clueless. ploughmans - 22 Aug 2011 17:56
Just a response to MD16, nothing personal, but you ask for Budweiser, alcohol being a depressant, then like to listen to Joy Division, a depressive band (even if good)? Recipe for a great time, that! Which I'll do now, ironically, hahaha. Still, thanks for the heads-up on it being trendy wanker territory, most will agree on that. Groovehound - 17 Jan 2011 12:24
Excellent pint of (GK) St Edmunds ale which I had not has before as well as Jekyll's Gold (I think) which was also enjoyed. Good service, looks a lively music venue but quiet during our afternoon stay (apart from the stabbing in the nearby minicab office!) but I wouldn't let that put you off keith253 - 8 Sep 2010 15:01
I have to agree with Baader after visiting the pub last night for a couple of beers. Harmless man, slightly drunk and eccentric was pushed out by idiotic fashion boy behind bar. When he served me he was more concerned with looking over my shoulder at said drunk and scowling, no eye contact at all (maybe I was deemed too unfashionable for the area, which can be renown for its advertising types, spotted a few in the pub with Pete Doherty hats all chortling about how brilliant they are) mumbling for my money and pulling a frankly piss poor pint of Budwiser before returning to his 'decks' behind bar. I had better service at the Exmouth Arms down the road than this place, and although the Exmouth's toilets haven't seen a cleaner in a couple of years, the Irish barman there at least is friendly and makes chat. Dunno why I'm expecting good service in a pub posing as a living room anyway. On the plus side, they did play a bit of Joy Division. MD16 - 15 Apr 2010 16:07
Pleasant pub near Exmouth Market - had only Abbot on when I visited (but it was Tuesday), pie also good. I imagine it could get very crowded. Events including the 'thinking person's comedy night' Bright Club happen in a separate space around the back. rainlight - 20 Jan 2010 07:52
