The Victoria, Henley-on-Thames

My new local.

The Victoria lost their licence in early 2012 after a long series of problems, and has re-opened in Dec 2012 under new management.

The name is changed to The Queen Victoria, as part of the refit which has given them a new paint job and a modern interior, which arranged in a "U" shape around the central bar.

The seating ranges from stools at the counter through table and chairs to some nice leather sofas.

Apart from the usual range of modern lagers, they have four tapes for ale and carry three during the week and four at weekends. There is of course also a selection of spirits and wine. I haven't tried the food yet.

Prices are typical for Henley/the south-east.

Based on two visits it is a good, local drinking pub with friendly staff.

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

An excellent pub, right next door to the Marriot Hotel. I always go in for a pint or two when I am up there on business.

They always have a great selection of beers, both Cains of Liverpool and guest beers. Definitely a pub for the mature drinker. No jukebox or slot machine (at least, I have never noticed them.) A good place for a quiet pint and a chat.

The tiled saloon room is fantastic, a converted insurance office if I have been correctly informed. The back rooms could do with brightening up a bit.

The White Horse, Richmond

This is one of my locals. In my opinion the quality of food has gone down. They used to have a different menu every day. Now it is a standard menu. I haven't eaten in there for over a year.

They never seem to have ESB on tap. The atmosphere is generally fairly smokey and noisy due to the lack of soft furnishings.
