All Bar One, Moorgate

Somebody needs to teach All Bar One that bitter should not be treated as a lager. My pint of London Pride was so called I got frost bite holding the glass.

I'd come for lunch and ordered a "chicken burger with pesto and sweet peppers". The "sweet peppers" consisted of a single two inch piece of pepper.

My meal was not so much served to me as thrown across the table very nearly ending up in my lap. The service was abysmal. The waitress seemed to have the memory of a goldfish as she couldn't remember what we'd ordered, whether we had cutlery or what condiments we wanted.

Very poor. Very poor indeed.

The Perseverance, Kingsland

It's probably Big Johnny Jumbo.

Ye Three Lords, Aldgate

Underwhelming pub. My pint of Youngs Special wasn't at it's best and the decor is your usual stained dark wood pub finish. Tried it on a Monday night and it was mostly empty. Not a pub I will be going back to.

The Sussex Yeoman, Brighton

Nice little pub with very good food. Small, so get in there early if you want to sit down. Only thing which prevents it being excellent is the unimaginative selection of beers. Bog standard cider and lagers plus IPA and Speckled Hen.

St Paul's Tavern, Moorgate

Why are pubs in the city so awful? The SPT encapsulates everything that is wrong with them. Generic wooden floors and tables appearance, typical array of lagers and a couple of bland bitters. Guaranteed a trade by it's location the whole impression is of a pub that nots bothered if you're there or not. It's about ok for a quick pint at lunch, but don't ever think of eating here. The burger, steak, fish and chips menu is overpriced, tastes like it's been microwaved and often arrives lukewarm.

The Mint, Tower Hill

Made the mistake of meeting a friend here. We were the only people in the pub. Even though it was 8 in the evening the staff seemed to be getting ready to close. Despite being a Fuller's pub only offers London Pride. The pub occupies the ground floor of a tall, ugly, modern block. The interior is neat and clean but utterly soulless. The atmosphere is not helped by the huge tv screen which pumps out Sky News. It's like sitting in a waiting room. Truly depressing.
