The Red Lion, Reading

Popped in for a swift pint on the way home as I saw there's a new owner. He seems like a top bloke and I've got high hopes for the pub. There was only one ale and it was superb (Loddon Hoppit). The chap knows his stuff, so he serves from a polypin from a local brewery during the week. On the weekend he'll open a cask. This is a great idea as it keeps the beer local and fresh while he builds up the business.
Pop in for a pint and a chat to support the new owner and allow him to transform the tired pub into somewhere worth visiting.

The Bull, Barkham

I've been coming here for 3 or 4 years. In that time there have been around 5 new owners. The latest has been there for 9 weeks. I went in on Sunday with my young family and was delighted to see the place was busy, as it deserves to be.
The new landlord is very friendly, there are 3 ales on pull and once the two broken pumps are fixed there will be 5. They are all kept in very good condition. The food is home cooked and of an excellent standard. There is a bar area, a lounge type area and then a restaurant type area at the back, so all moods are catered for.
There was a very friendly atmosphere and even though it was busy my daughter had space to move around without unduly disturbing others.
Looking forward to my next visit very soon.

The Rose and Thistle, Reading

This is my favourite pub for food in Reading. The home cooked food is simply superb. There are a couple of real ales, one Greene King and another guest ale, which are always served in good condition. There are a few TV screens for sport but it never gets too rowdy. The other drinkers are well mannered and friendly, as is the lovely landlady. The pub is family friendly and puts on occasional fun weekends with BBQs and bouncy castles. It's a bit out of town but well worth a look.
