The Dorset Arms, East Grinstead

Jayson and his wife have moved to another pub in town, The Broadway.

Still a very popular place but I would say it needs some stronger management to get it back up to what it was. I feel its getting a bit worn out and grubby in places.

Some good news atlast as the current managers become tenants from September. This will give them the ability to do what they know is best for the pub and its regulars rather than follow the ridiculous Young's policies that made prices more expensive than London.
I can't wait to see the improvements and maybe an upturn for the daytime trade.

The Wells Youngs merger has brought no real change. The pricing policy for drinks is ridiculous. 3.10 for a pint of Strongbow for example and 3.55 for a small Pinot Grigio. Weekday daytime drinkers are all but gone.

Live music has become a regular Friday or Saturday feature and has become a real plus for the pub.

Nice friendly Beefeater steak house with attentive staff. Steaks tend to be better when the pub is quieter as the chef can spend more time on your order.
Usual selection of good value wines correctly opened at the table.

Gained much of the custom from The Ship, further up the road.
The pub can get very busy and a great atmosphere follows. Even when quiet, you still feel comfy at the bar.
Three or four real ales are usually on and mostly of good quality but sometimes suffer from lack of sales.
Staff are pleasant but sometimes can be a bit lacking in the attentive department.
Best of the town centre pubs and beats the Ship on price nine times out of ten.

Bad points.
Only one malt whisky.
No ginger beer for those wanting a ginger beer shandy.
Can be very smokey.

The landlord & landlady watch in vain as Young's extortionate pricing policy drives more and more of the locals elsewhere. Prices here are higher than in London. Hopefully Charles Wells will change things.
Lack of sales means a good pint of real ale is a lottery.

Plus points.
Pleasant and friendly landlord and landlady with usually pleasant and often very pretty staff.
Good range of malt whiskies.
Nice log fire.
Large seating/dining area and large outdoor decking area for the summer.
Good atmosphere when its busy.

Bad points.
Young's own it !
