The White Horse, Broom

The previous landlord of this pub left three weeks ago and it is now under new management. It has returned to its former self and drinkers are now welcomed back into this lovely country pub, now serving food to all and sundry and not just the 'middle class'.

The Cock is indeed still open. It was sold by the brewery and is now a free house, I'm told. I have not visited the Cock since the change but the beer was excellent during the interim period.

The Approach Tavern, Bethnal Green

Visited this pub for the first time last Friday and loved it! A real ale pub in the true tradition, away from the commercial parts of Bethnal Green. It was busy too, with a happy and lively crowd. I'll be there again as soon as the opportunity presents itself! Not many like this that I know of in London these days.

There has been a change of landlord in this pub. Drinkers are no longer welcome, so if you want a decent pint, go elsewhere! Plough at Langford is probably the best bet as the Cock in Broom will close in November 2012 when the present landlord retires.

Worth noting that this pub has recently upgraded its restaurant facilities. I have yet to try them but early reports are promising.

this has probably been done out of necessity rather than expediency as this remains a proper traditional pub for drinking beer in. The landlord rightly takes great trouble and pride over the condition of his beers, which can include some surprising and unusual guest ones. Ever a favourite of mine!

The Crown and Garter, Inkpen Common

Had a very convivial evening staying here. Did not sample much of the food but the beer was excellent, as was the drinking atmosphere. Whiskies also a speciality. There was a genuine welcome at the bar and the accomodation was adequate. You'll need a Tom Tom to find the place! RG17 9QR

The pub has done well to bolster its existence as such by running dining fcilities whilst still preserving enough of it for a proper old fashioned supping session. Popular with locals. How nice to find a pub these days where you can have a beer or two without feeling like a nuisance appendage to a restaurant/gastro pub!

Definitely one to be re/visited for the serious beer drinker. CAMRA recognised.

The White Horse, Southill

Under new management, this atmospheric rural pub has a lovely garden and good eating facilities. Greene King IPA is excellent.

Service is perhaps a little slow but for me this is compensated for by the obvious attention to detail and a keenness to please and do a professional job.

This is a real old fashioned pub, which will sell you food on the quiet if you really must eat! It is small with a real inglenook fire, which chucks out plenty of heat.

It has a cosy local ambience with a good crowd of regulars. The ales are superb, the pub having won the Cask Marque in successive years. There is normally a gest ale of some sort.

Best on weekday lunchtimes, I find.

The Alice Lisle, Rockford

The perfect New Forest pub. Nice garden with open area in front grazed by ponies and a lake behind. Very child friendly. This pub sells real food as well as real ale.

One not to miss if in the Ringwood area!

The Black Horse, Ireland

This pub is a delight and the comments I have seen are agreed. I would warn, however, that this is very much a "dining" pub these days, with fine food and wines. Quite "smart".

Nevertheless worth a visit, but it's not a "tee shirt 'n' jeans sort of a place!

The Jolly Roger, Porthcothan Bay

The best holidaymakers' pub I know, frequented by locals as well as visitors. Unfailingly friendly service and amAzingly good rump steaks. Plenty for the children to do but drive carefully when leaving as access roads are narrow!

It is open to non residents of the campsite but I'm not sure if it's open all the year round.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

I've known this pub for years. It is more of a winter pub than a summer one. There is a real fire in the front bar in winter.

when it comes to ale, only Sam Smith's is sold, plus lagers etc of course. Speaking in 2005 the price of a pint here, at 1.70, must be the cheapest in Greater London and probably a good few miles beyond!

Excellent drinking atmosphere....beware of one leading to another!

The Bell Inn, Ramsbury

Ramsbury is a charming villagr set in the Kennet Valley just off the Main Swindon to Hungerford road, about 3 miles north of Hungerford and the A4. It is close to Littlecote House Hotel.

There is a dining room and a good drinking atmosphere.

The Pheasant, Shefford Woodlands

Favoured by the Lambourn horse racing community, this pub has moved rather upmarket in recent years and is now as much of a high quality restaurant as it is a pub.

There is still room for drinkers, however. The Pheasant is VERY convenient for junction 14 on the M4 motorway, if you happen to have thirsty passengers!
