The Langley Tap, Langley Burrell

A large work party ate here recently and were very disappointed. Large number of selections on the starter and main menu were unavailable (despite the party being pre-booked), and the ordering process descended into farce, with some members forced to have third or fourth choice meals. Comments met by a "shrug" from the young waitress. First time we've eaten here since change of ownership, and certainly won't rush back. Beer was good however, and pub retains its great character. Shame about the dining experience !!!

The Three Magpies, Sells Green

Strange place. Classic Wiltshire Country Pub mixture of good and bad. Pub has great character & great beer. Food very average. Front of house guy shouldn't be let anywhere near customers until he goes on refresher training.Waitress very good. Landlady sounded worn out, and was an effort to talk !! Much better choices in the area. Try Lansdowne Arms (Derry Hill), The Bell (Lacock), or the Langley Tap (Langley Burrell).

Old Inn, Holt

We ate here as a family of 8 (4 adults & 4 kids) on Easter Sunday. Choice on menu was varied, and quality & quantity of food also good. Considering the pub was busy, the service was excellent. I understand from my bother (who lives locally), that this pub has recently been taken over. The modern interior decor was still beautifully in keeping with the traditional country pub. Good luck to the new licencees, and I strongly recommend a visit if you're in the Dorset area. I would not take any notice of old postings, as they are clearly aimed at the previous owners!!

Pheasant Inn, Chippenham

Thought we'd try out the "all new" Pheasant, after it's recent refurbishment and re-branding as a "Carvery Pub". In a nutshell, it does what it says on the tin. A decent carvery meal at a very reasoable price, with a reasonable selection of beers to wash the food down with. You probably wouldn't choose it as a romantic meal for two venue, but if you want a decent roast with the family it will tick all the boxes.

The Lock Inn Cafe (Canal Side Cafe), Bradford on Avon

Ate here for the third time recently. Always very busy (a good sign), and as a result we had to wait nearly an hour for our food. However, service was very friendly and staff were hard working and organised. Menu quite varied and extensive, and very reasonable prices with good sized portions. Pub is extremely quirky and doesn't follow rules of established chains. Canal side location and wide array of eating areas (open air, garden room, canal boat, marquee, and indoor area) only adds to the charm. Well worth the visit if you can cope with its lively nature and crowds.

The Quarryman's Arms, Box

Ate here one Sunday lunchtime about 2 weeks ago. Excellent choice of food on menu, plus lots of specials. Beer well kept (good pint of Moles) and attentive service. Party of 6 consisted of 2 kids, 2 parents and 2 OAPS. One of the best pubs in North Wiltshire if you can find it!!!

The Peterborough Arms, Chippenham

We ate here as a family over May Day Bank Holiday. Good pint of IPA & welcoming landlord & landlady. Dogs in bar while eating may put some people off. Food was reasonably good, but suggest Langley Tap (Langley Burrell) or Bell Inn (Lacock) as better places to eat.

Wellesley Arms, Sutton Benger

We had a very enjoyable meal on New Year's Sunday. The staff were very friendly and worked hard. The food was excellent, a good plateful and very tasty. The Chef even popped out see if the customers were happy and if they wanted any more gravy or roasties! We tend to go out every month and can't believe how difficult it is to find somewhere that serves great food and gives fantastic service, but here we did. And at a cost of 42 for a family of four, (two adult meals, a kid's 'real' chicken nuggets, and kid's roast that didn't look much smaller than dad's meal, together with three puddings, that were included in the meal price) it was great value too! Will definitely be back.
