Much improved in recent months. Now has 2 or 3 ales on at any time (usually Brakspear and Hobgoblin) and the dodgy crowd from a few years ago seem to be getting thinner on the ground. They're clearly trying to improve the pub but it rarely looks busy which is a shame.

Excellent staff, terrific ales, comfy chairs, local cat that hogs the best seat by the fire. A more mature crowd tends to frequent but there's more than enough cack kiddie pubs in Beckenham.

Excellent ales and table service. Bit of a sports bar and atmosphere can revolve around what footy/rugby is on.

Very smokey Irish pub with awful ale but good Guinness. Feisty but excellent landlady somehow keeps the salt of the earth clientel in order. Not one to take a lady on a first date...

All the comments about poor service and uncoth customers are true but it's the best pub in Penge, sadly. This is partly due to price (Wetherspoons) and partly due to the incredible choice of excellent ales (er Wetherspoons again). A big pub, it usually has about at least a dozen ales to choose from and I've not had a bad pint yet in many visits.

Very nice looking boozer from the outside and layout in is very old fashioned and interesting - 3 rooms served by same central bar. Some efforts have been made to drag it out of the gutter by new landlord (it used to be rowdy and a bit of a trouble hotspot) and it now at least sells Pride and Bass rather than just Courage Best. However it's still not great and too many of the old crowd still frequent it.

Bar service quality fluctuates depending on who's there but the beer is frankly exceptional.
