The Victoria Hotel, Whitby

Popped in here late August for a pint or two. Found a small but good selection of ales. One of the best pints of Strongarm ever. Very friendly barman working. I returned later with the family for a bite to eat. Food menu a little limited. Although still over priced (like all the other places) it was one of the cheaper ones. Sandwiches good and the kids meals excellent value.

The Hornblower Tavern, Ripon

Think the previous reviewer hit this one on the head. The beer is warm although not undrinkable. The whole place though is very uninviting and dirty. Anyone walking in here is going to get a very bad impression of the pubs in Ripon. Do not lose faith there are a few good ones!

Magdalens, Ripon

Not the most welcoming of places and the beer tasted very tired. I don't think they turn their beer around quick enough. Rather run down and not the cleanest of places.

Royal Oak, Ripon

Friendly staff and the beer was good. Need a few more guest ales in my opinion. I like to try new beers. Lager left a lot to be desired. Had a not cleaned in weeks taste and odour to it. Always a nice relaxed atmosphere in here. Food menu looked good. If I hadn't just eaten I'd have given them a whirl.

Lamb and Flag, Ripon

Very small traditional pub. ok pint of black sheep, lady behind the bar was in need of cheering up. Big beer garden but full of cigarette ends. Pool table taking up a lot of space and not used the whole time I was there.

Black Swan, Ripon

Ok pint of John Smiths cask. Customers language a little choice. Didn't stay for long and the smell from the toilets put me off going. Over all nothing ticked any boxes for me.

Unicorn Hotel, Ripon

This is by far the best 'spoons' I have ever visited. Always an excellent selection of the best kept beer in Ripon. The staff are a credit to this establishment unlike some Wetherspoon robots. Cleanliness always top class. The best pint of Jorvik Blonde I have ever tasted and the steak I had to go with it was exceptional. Don't be put off by how busy this place gets. It just isn't big enough to keep up with demand.

The Black Bull, Ripon

No beer on at all!! Lager tasted like cider. Total waste of what could be a nice old style boozer. Uninterested staff. Dirty and run down and smells. Will not return!

Tanners Hall, Darlington

A traditional old style Wetherspoon. I don't drink here very often as I live 30 miles away. I have never experienced anything but excellent beer and very friendly efficient staff. Ok the place is a little dated but is always clean. The staff and managers seem to know everyone and if they don't they soon do. The manager I was talking to about the beers remembered me from over 6 months ago when I last saw him. Many new beers appear here along with local micros. Never a bad pint or experience.
