I think the reason nobody uses it is because the beer is too expensive. Shame. TW11 - 9 Feb 2008 14:09
Actually I work for the NHS and would appreciate it if you allowed me to have my opinion as I do you. At least we both agree on the eel. TeddingtonJane - 27 Jan 2008 17:47
Firstly, the review below this one is clearly written by the Royal Oak management. There is not a relaxed and lively atmosphere in this pub...there's NO atmosphere. Why? Because there’s never anyone in the bloody place!! The inside looks like it’s been put together by someone doesn’t have a clue about what makes a good bar. The fixtures and fittings have a cheap feel about them (and I agree with Maggie_Tul, definitely IKEA), the food is expensive and the drinks are expensive. It's just a shambles, and it’s such a shame because the old place was a good pub with character and good atmosphere! The ONLY good thing going for it is the stripy moray eel in the fish tank by the toilet!!! JerryBean - 26 Jan 2008 21:38
I went into the new Oak last Friday and was really surprised. From the outside it looked like it may be 'chain' pub (it isn’t) but went in anyway under recommendation. Loved it! Really relaxed and lively atmosphere, great food, excellent bar staff (attentive, smart and care about serving/talking to you rather than talking to each other), and the most surprising... it wasn't actually expensive, at all. The wine and larger prices were the same if not less that what I pay in other local pubs, as was the food (I must point out I like to eat good food, not ‘pub grub’ so you will find cheaper in pubs that defrost and deep fry their meals) and with 10% off everything in January is worked out even better value for money. Would highly recommend it and have already made my return visit. TeddingtonJane - 14 Jan 2008 14:20
Very Expensive Food (was even more expensive when they opened) Cold interior. Expensive Beer. Bland decor. Expensive Wine. Soul less. Expensive Spirits. Smart, clueless but willing staff. Expensive Soft drinks. Not sure what it is trying to be - All Bar One meets Gordon Ramsay - decor by IKEA Did I mention it was expensive? Maggie_Tul - 5 Dec 2007 15:13
