please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I think the reason nobody uses it is because the beer is too expensive. Shame.

Actually I work for the NHS and would appreciate it if you allowed me to have my opinion as I do you.
At least we both agree on the eel.

Firstly, the review below this one is clearly written by the Royal Oak management.
There is not a relaxed and lively atmosphere in this pub...there's NO atmosphere. Why? Because there’s never anyone in the bloody place!!
The inside looks like it’s been put together by someone doesn’t have a clue about what makes a good bar. The fixtures and fittings have a cheap feel about them (and I agree with Maggie_Tul, definitely IKEA), the food is expensive and the drinks are expensive.
It's just a shambles, and it’s such a shame because the old place was a good pub with character and good atmosphere!
The ONLY good thing going for it is the stripy moray eel in the fish tank by the toilet!!!

I went into the new Oak last Friday and was really surprised. From the outside it looked like it may be 'chain' pub (it isn’t) but went in anyway under recommendation. Loved it!
Really relaxed and lively atmosphere, great food, excellent bar staff (attentive, smart and care about serving/talking to you rather than talking to each other), and the most surprising... it wasn't actually expensive, at all. The wine and larger prices were the same if not less that what I pay in other local pubs, as was the food (I must point out I like to eat good food, not ‘pub grub’ so you will find cheaper in pubs that defrost and deep fry their meals) and with 10% off everything in January is worked out even better value for money.
Would highly recommend it and have already made my return visit.

Very Expensive Food (was even more expensive when they opened) Cold interior. Expensive Beer. Bland decor. Expensive Wine. Soul less. Expensive Spirits. Smart, clueless but willing staff. Expensive Soft drinks. Not sure what it is trying to be - All Bar One meets Gordon Ramsay - decor by IKEA Did I mention it was expensive?

I agree with almost all the comemnts below. The food is too expensive and the chips need work. But this place could win out in termes of its excellent and friendly service over the likes of the hopelessly indifferent Teddington Arms. And, although the beer range is limited, the Surrey Hills ale that they had on was good and interesting. I would definitely revisit.

The bar is really nice. The service is good. The bar staff are great and seem to care about what's going on. This is ace as so many places have staff who just don't give a toss.
I have two problems with the food: 1. £11.90 for a burger and chips? £16.00 for steak and chips? This is too expensive. I will be going elsewhere for my dinner.
2.The chips are naff. They look "from the bag" rather than home made. Sort it out please.

Wife and I went in yesterday evening not really knowing what to expect, we never drank in the old pub.
Refurb is very good and prices same as you'd expect anywhere in Teddington, we hadn't planned to eat but when we saw some of the dishes come out we thought we would, everything perfect and obviously freshly cooked.
The Clientele was very mixed in age but no big crowds of yobs etc. Great evening, will try and come back with the lads one night. .

This is what Teddington has been waiting for !! The pub food is superb, the restaurant has yet to open but I'm guessing it will be top notch if the decor is anything to go by. It's been a long time since I've received such pleasant and attentive service from bar/waiting staff, I can't agree with last comment about the prices, this is not your regular microwaved out the packet stuff, all locally sourced, organically farmed produce apparently. It's a little quiet at the minute but Im sure it will pick up once everyone discovers it !! This place is going to save me some train fares into London !

This now called 'The Oak' should be named 'Remorgage' as that is what some of us might have to do to either eat or drink in there! £10.90 for a burger and chips!!!
Unforunately another cloned, sterile pub - may be too early to say about atmosphere as just opened. Plently of staff and eager to serve which was nice.
Website claims -- 'modern feel whilst retaining the traditional London pub relaxed atmosphere' - really!!!??? Mixture of high and low tables - telly in corner. Usual stuff.
Apparantly there is a resturant downstairs but have yet to try it.
I will see what this pub will develop into in a few months time.

Looks like it will be a while before this reopens. First the basement flooded, now they have had planning permission refused on the kitchen extractor. Seems it was an afterthought that they needed one! Guess we need to wait a bit longer to see if it is any good.

This Pub will reopen late 2006(soon?)and hopefully we can all get back to enjoying the great sevice that was there before. Yes there are houses built on the spare land at the back of the old pub site, but the new pub is on the roadside and has a seperate restuarant downstairs. Same management as before, so things are looking good hopefully.

I've come back after working abroad and was saddened to find that this pub had closed down! Some of the funnist and maddest nights have been in this pub! A lovely pub with a fun, safe and friendly environment.. and ofcourse the dogs, Hooch and Ouzo who were just lovely!!

Oh woe - the childhood home has gone. Where will we spend our Christmas eves now?

I know its closed but just have to defend a fine Teddington pub. The bar staff were very friendly , there was always someone to talk too. May Ouzo and Hooch rest in peace. Long live the Gambler!!!!

They closed it down - it'll soon be houses.

Went to this pub last night, been in once or twice before, very polite bar staff ***** good atmosphere & nice place overall.... Its got a pool table. Next time will try the food.
|
This is with out a doubt the best pub in Teddington. It is very well run and has a very friendly atmosphere. If you'll looking for pool and music, you're in. If you fancy a quiet drink in comfortable surroundings, you're in. Overall a good choice.

I think this pub has to be one of the best in Teddington by a long shot. The staff and owners are great, and it is easy to see that has a lot of soul. Was also very impressed with how fast they worked during Euro 2004 and managed to keep an excellent atmosphere with no trouble. Also great for a night out and meeting people.

Don't bother going to this pub if you enjoy real ale - the beers are not kept well.

One of my favourite pubs. Excellent new pool table and competitive (and friendly)players in there. Great selection of beers. big car park. conveniently near a bookies for those saturday afternoon accumulators!
