Well, I hope you are right there Scombes, as we gave the place another try on last Monday, early evening, and it was totally empty in there, and as you know its a BIG Pub to fill, and will indeed take a LOT of marketing to get the place bouncing again. There was an offer for January on the chalkboard outside saying, any Pasta dish for £4:95, between 12-5, and a Sunday Carvery ( no price though ) with Chef Anton too. Lets hope people start taking advantage of these offers soon, as it really IS a nice Pub inside nowdays, and should be a LOT busier than it is.......... DuncanDisorderly - 11 Jan 2012 19:10
Food wise i think they have gone for a more fine dining gastro sort of feel rather than your traditional pub grub and as people still see it as a pub then its going to be a slow start. Having had food here though i do believe they are on to something positive but we shall see. The only way people can say its too expensive is if they have had food there and then decide its not worth it just like everything in life you buy. With regards to xmas eve having talking to the guys they have struggled over xmas as they lost out on alot of xmas bookings having only taken over in november but for the ones thay have had including some groups which have come the previous year there has been nothing but compliments. With xmas out the way they are going to push marketing wise as people are still coming into the pub for the first time since has been refurbished. So i do believe next year will be the one that should get the pub known and bouncing... Scombes - 4 Jan 2012 21:02
In response to the below post, I'm not sure if they have dropped their Drinks prices, since I first posted my comments, as those prices DO seem reasonable, and even cheaper as you say than the surrounding Pubs. However MANY people I have spoken to, think the food menu to be expensive, and have said they probably won't return due to this. In fact four of us called in the Pub on Xmas Eve, and the place was EMPTY, no one eating there, and only a few people in the Bar side of the Pub, in contrast to the Westbourne, which was packed with people eating and drinking, in fact it was SO busy, that we couldn't get served, and came down to the Wig to give it another try, but didn't stay, as it was SO quiet, we strolled up to the Bryn Y Mor instead, which was also packed, as was The Mill opposite, which is the way all Pubs SHOULD be on Xmas Eve. So I wonder just why the Wig was so quiet on Xmas Eve, as its a really nice pub inside nowdays !!!!!......... DuncanDisorderly - 3 Jan 2012 08:47
sorry Duncan but having been in this place since it has re-opened i have to disagree with you there, the cost of the food represents its value i.e you get what you pay for! try it.....its called research. All food is cooked fresh by thier award winning chef Anton (previously at Antons restaurant on wind street) as you can see im a keen follower. As for your opinion on drinks....£2.75 pt Carling, £3.00 Pt Stella, £1.90 vodka + dash, All cask ales £2.65, Bells/Jamesons £2.10 with a double at £3.10. They are just as good as the other pubs in the area if not cheaper, there are only one or two things that they are not as cheap on. Sorry Dunc but they have done their research.....now why dont you try. Would recommend this place to anyone. Scombes - 2 Jan 2012 19:45
Just re-opened, but have VERY high prices on their food menu. The drinks aren't cheap either, not sure if they have done their research on the surrounding Pubs / Restuarants actually. Not going to be busy, unless they come down to reality, methinks....... DuncanDisorderly - 27 Nov 2011 22:09
