Not good beer here sadly...spent loads doing it up but it lost all its old character....very expensive ale ...standard Green King offerings.Lighting very iffy!!! fullbelly - 23 Jun 2008 16:56
I have no connection with The Crown other than as a satisifed customer and stand by my comments of Nov 07, I've been back several times since, at a variety of times and nights, and in a variety of company, and no one has had a bad word to say... this from a group that ranges from my 18-year-old Goth daughter to my 87 year old ex-para father with just about everything in between. I would not take my wife or my family or friends to a pub where there was a likelyhood of violence or drug abuse. There have been a number of trainee bar staff learning the job on recent visits and service has suffered a little as a result though I tend to view this as a source of entertainment rather than annoyance.... I had a meal which was below par on my day off recently, my friend's meal was fine. I told the manager ASAP and my complaint was dealt with swiftly and with as much good grace as her obvious embarasment would allow. At not point was I asked to leave and have been back since and had an enjoyable pint. Much better pubs in town if real ale is your thing but if you want a lager, bottled beer or a glass or bottle of wine, or even a coffee in a bar for grown ups, The Crown is workhard - 21 Jan 2008 17:08
What a transformation! Been in 4 or 5 times since the refurb on Sat and Sun lunchtimes. Always seems to attract couples and mature small groups of friends. Beer is well kept though not the most imaginitive selection in town. Food well prepared and well presented, staff friendly. Overall atmosphere and decor is very much like a hotel bar rather than a town centre pub. workhard - 12 Nov 2007 15:47
Green King have really got it right at the Crown and should be congratulated. Went for Sunday Lunch with the family the food was excellent, the service was first class and the surroundings were fab. At last they have put a manager in who really knows what they are doing. Well done to all concerned, not before time. murpheys_law - 22 Oct 2007 16:34
