OVERNIGHT STAY WAS GREAT, VERY CLEAN. STAFF WERE PROFFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY. FOOD WAS GREAT AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

The Spinning Dog Hereford Bull here was actually better than the same ale in the Victory on our visit, though the BOB in the box was very warm. The barwomen were friendly, despite being dressed rather formally. Worth a quick one on the way back to the choo choo.

Not sure about the Bar 28 in the title, but certainly a bar in the Merton Hotel. The Merton Hotel's website has an area where you can click on bar and lounge and there is no mention of this name. I don't blame them either as it is a comfortable hotel bar. Our train arrived later than we expected and we only had about 40 minutes before kick off. One of our group looked through the window and spotted the two hand pumps. This made our decision to visit, however when the rest of our group caught up they pointed out the GBG Kings Fee was just across the road. We had already ordered drinks so we stayed here. On hand pump they had Wye Valley Bitter and Hereford Pale Ale and they also had a polypin of Wickwar's Bob at £2.00 a pint. No problems with the ale quality on what I drunk. A number of leather sofas were in the lounge but not many customers in here. I don't know why as it was a comfortable friendly place to have a drink. The barmaid even offered to take a photo of our group, no doubt appearing on Facebook very soon.

Popped in for a swift couple of halves before catching the train back. The inside felt very much like a hotel bar that had experienced a quick makeover to turn it into a 'proper' drinking venue'. The décor was very burgundy, if I recall and there was a TV at one end with something on (I forget what, blame the Barrels...). It was clean and comfy enough.

Two ales on - Wye Valley HPA and a Spinning Dog beer. True to the form of the day, the Wye Valley beer was excellent and the SD was flat and lifeless (though whether this is the fault of the pub or the beer I don't know).

If you've got a 20 minute wait for a train, you could do worse, but don't spend any Barrels-time here unnecessarily!

Went in here last night as had some time to kill before getting the train home. Pleasant bar with a slightly old fashioned feel. Had two good pints of Butty Bach, only two quid each as it was happy hour. Will probably visit again.
