An excellent high ceilinged Victorian establishment near to the site of the former Ilkeston railway station. Large rambling place with numerous rooms and a garden to sit out in. Friendly staff and clientele and seven ales on of which the Thornbridge Jaipur was spot-on - best pint of the day. A proper old school pub with excellent ale... there are so few of them left. Gets a straight 10 from me. Snarling_Mallard - 17 Jul 2011 15:55
Great pub although I've taken friends in who think its a bit spit and saw dust. Pah shandy drinking swines, what do they know! Bizarrely they used to have a poetry night once a month (not sure if they still do) which was a rare treat in Ilkeston! The food is ace, I recommend there door stopper sarnies you won't have to eat again for a week. Landlord is super-friendly and the well kept real ales are great. Definately what pubs should be a real treat. Flyssann - 1 Jun 2006 19:18

Wow!! What agreat place. They have an endless range of real ales served by a knowledgeable landlord - even if he can be a bit dour. There is a truly weird jukebox in the bar that takes the concept of random play to the extreme. Apparently good for a few late 'uns of an evening Cobbo - 6 Jun 2004 16:26
