The Red Lion, Godalming - pub details

Description

The Red Lion pub Godalming, we offer fantastic food and drink, with warm and friendly service. Split into two bars we offer a different experience in each. We serve food in both bars but our public bar offers table service and a relaxed restaurant feel. The venue bar plays host to our live music and monthly comedy night, with 2 60inch T.V’s linked up to our video jukebox the venue bar offers a vibrant alternative to the public bar. We also boast Godalming’s largest beer garden and with our sofa setting area we think it’s the most comfortable as well, perfect for lazing an afternoon away.

The food on offer is much like our bars diverse and vibrant. We hand stretch all of our stone baked pizza, with choices from classic Margherita to Crispy duck we have all bases covered. We also offer takeaway. Fancy a burger? Our unique World burger menu has something for everyone, all of our burgers are handmade to order including our veggie burgers.

Lovely refurb, friendly staff and great food. Welcome change to the Red Lion. Been a couple of times recently and will certainly go back!

What's happened to the Red Lion ? Been past a few times and never anyone in there. I hear the pool table is back out of sheer desperation to get punters back in after they basicly stuck two fingers up at the locals when they took over. I hear all sorts of stories around town of how they are throwing their weight around. Flyering in other venues , underpaying bands, threatening locals if they park outside the pub. I heard they cancelled a charity event due to be put on there at the last minute and then put their own event. It's all very unsavoury. Will be glad when they finally leave as many in town have simply had enough of their bully boy tactics.

What a difference the new owners have made!
Having visited The Red Lion from time to time over the last few years finally someone has spent the time and money giving this place a much needed refurb (finally the dodgy carpet has gone.) Thankfully they have also kept some of the character of the pub, which I have always liked. The food on offer is really good too, I didn't intend on eating but with a 2.4.1 offer on pizza our group thought we would give it a go, we weren't disappionted.
Service from staff that actually seemed to care which is far too often lacking in some pubs was there in volumes. I wont be leaving it so long til my next visit.

IT APPEARS DEAR MAGDA HAS MOVED ON AND THIS PUB IS NOW UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP. She did a stint at the Winterton Arms, before leaving, owing them money too!!
