| The Whitworth has had a bit of makeover, gone are the dingy carpets and 25 yr old seating.The wholeplace has been spruced up new hardwood flooring and seating a whole new relaxed style.The emphasis is now not only on serving alcohol but giving an all round experience,open at 8 am serving breakfast brunch and fairtrade coffee and tea, with ciabbatta smoothies and a weekly speciality cocktail. | The Whitworth has now been open for a solid 2 years. A great pub with a lot to offer. Previously a Marstons' boozer but now, to the best of my knowledge, under no brewery management. The Whitworth usually has two ales on both of which are Hydes, which makes sense due to its proximity to the brewery but not under their management due to the absence of any brewery branding. The beers are usually a standard Hydes Original/ Jekyll's Gold and a Hydes Festival Beer/ Guest (e.g. Spin Doctor, Mumbo Jumbo, Sacre Bleu etc). This very pleasant pub opposite Whitworth Park boasts two spacious rooms with a connected beer garden (where smoking is permitted). There are obvious efforts to rejuvinate the pub with the weekly holding of a quiz night (Tuesday 9.30-10.30) which is brief, relaxed and great fun) with the first prize being alcohol. Well worth a look in if in the area, especially on Tuesday night for the quiz, as it is relaxed with a good mixed crowd of locals and students and well kept ale. | Pleasantly surprised by this pub. Looks a bit pokey from the outside, nestled on the edge of the Curry Mile, but it's deceptively spacious inside and a good selection of drinks. Is more of a local pub thsn the majority of places on or just off the Oxford/Wilmslow Road, but the atmosphere was pretty laid back and the beer was in good nick. | bit of a dingy boozer, the barman could not pull a pint to save his life - it was the end of the barrell spitting everywhere, when i infomred him he needde to change the barrell he said "nah it'll settle in a minute." Some dodgy characters about too... bensonby - 27 Apr 2006 12:10 |
