| Walekd past one wevenign and heard some music and went in and it was some sort of rock jam session. Bloody good fun if a bit retro. Sort of like a mildly psychedelic rock club in Brighton in the early 1970s Yes I am old enough to remember such places - though most of the musicians here looked far too young to have even heard of the kind of music they were playing. Only hassle was they locked the back door at 9pm so smokers - or anyone who wanted to cool off - could no longer go into the garden. And it was disgustingly hot, it was a hot day and the bar was packed. Of course the smokers just went out into the street which was a lot worse from the point of view of the neighbours. Absurd idea to shut the garden. I was on my own but met about half a dozen people worth chatting to. A bit of a retro ex-hippy feel to the niogth, but like I said, bloody good fun. I'll go again. bob_brown - 8 Jun 2008 18:53 |
| A bit of a mixed up mess to look at - part grunge, part bohemian, part student bar, part art gallery. No Ales, which is the general scenario with most of the pubs in Deptford. The cheap £2 a pint happy hour didn’t seem to be attracting too many people through the doors (although Glenn Tilbrook did walk in as we were leaving). We were greeted as we walked in by Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday clashing violently with some clubby rubbish at the opposite end of the pub and when you spot that the TV has an indoor aerial you just know that things aren’t going to be very good. The far end opens up to stage area albeit there were sofas (with no tables) taking up most of the space. Very tatty and basic, it probably has a certain unusual charm and eccentricity to some but there is little to tempt me back (unless Glenn brings his guitar with him next time). | The new management is busily transforming this old timer into a pub to watch, visit & enjoy in SE London. Funky artwork by local artists, free music nightly, £2 happy hour specials, good people-watching with lots of local characters....it's worth a visit & good excuse to check out Deptford Market (W, F & Sats) during the day or enjoy a night out in Deptford (great food at bargain prices in the High St). lovedeptford - 12 Dec 2007 09:39 |
| Reminds me of the Windmill in Brixton: nice, scruffy, music focused place. MrScott - 5 Nov 2007 16:29 |
| Under new management, great improvement in the beers pity they have brought the New Cross Inn bar staff with them and their bad habits - untidy bar area and uncollected bottles and glasses and full up ashtrays in the beer garden while they all hogged the Barbeque area. The garden could do with a good sweep, shame could be quite a pleasant area. Nevertheless better than the past, great new pool table, good cheap pint - Manager crack the whip before it's too late. rfc1 - 25 Jul 2007 15:56 |
