| Well, the beer is just about OK - a pint of the Deuchar's IPA was decidely lacklustre and the Director's wasn't much better. The kitchen is apparently up and running but sadly the quality's far below what it ought to be. Food took quite a long while to appear - the barmaid informed us that it was all being prepared from fresh. (No problem with that.) However, my sausage & mash with red wine & onion gravy was instantly forgettable and slathered with over-thickened granule-based goo, and if that was freshly-made mash, then I'm losing my sense of taste. My g/f's burger was (on the first attempt) raw and cold on the inside, and possessed of a disturbingly slimy consistency and an odd, acrid livery taste. (Made fresh that day, we were reassured.) Second attempt was at least hotter, but still ... well ... just as nasty. Money back, thanks. Can't recommend this place, I'm afraid. Go elsewhere. | Pub still looks OK - doesn't look like they have their kitchen up and running yet. Beer is good Landlady's pretty (nice change in Harefield) orfordbeer - 17 Jul 2007 23:36 |
| Unimpressed after two visits in 2005 I too popped in twice on opening day after seeing the now open sign. Although Rory the new tenant has plans to serve pub grub in both bars as soon as he gets the new kitchen installed, make no mistake that he has turned it back into a real pub once again complete with GK IPA & Wells Bombardier on draught. The local real ale afficianados have started to drift back and not a chav in sight. Was tanya_alc in the same pub as I? Esseness - 12 May 2007 06:54 |
| OH DEAR. Re-opened 4/5/07. Now a tenanted Punch Tavern (Yes that AWFUL outfit!). On my visit (4/5), there was no real ale available and the pub was ensconced (as was the “garden”) with CHAVS. Nothing ever changes, Uh? tanya_alc - 5 May 2007 22:50 |
| Can't say I'm surprised at the closure - now watch for the planning application! John_R - 11 Feb 2007 23:16 |
