| Still a nice pub but needs a bit of up-dating and re-decoration. Owners have become a bit complacent about their success. Could do with a change to the long-standing and now boring menu, and the regular Landlord and Ringwood Best. The Kings Arms nearby is usually much busier, the Harefield can be dead at times. Hope this isn't the next one in Harefield to go............... Harefield2003 - 19 Jun 2011 20:26 |
| Going to have to rate this pub 10. Simply because it delivers everything it says it does. Great real ale kept to near perfection, great lager. I won't comment on the wine as it is not a wine bar/bistro.Good pub grub and dog friendly! I read some of Davidfthorns other reviews on pubs, he drinks JD and lemonade ('nuff said!) and at a guess I would say his favourite pub might be a whetherspoons. Next beer festival is April 29! | I remember this pub as the Kings Head back in the 70's and 80's when I lived in Harefield. It was run by an eccentric old-school guvnor called Bernard who had a habit of not letting people in if they didn't have a tie on. It was then turned into a tacky place called Mad O'Rourke's Pie Shop, then I believe it was taken over again and had it's name changed to Disraelis. It was then the Picke Jar for a while until the current owners turned it back into a proper pub and called it The Harefield. That's the history lesson over but what's it like now. Well I've recently had cause to visit a few times and have been very impressed. It's a clean and tidy pub, well decorated and with efficient and friendly staff. Very much a community pub supporting local charities and residents campaigns. A good menu that includes typical pub grub without going to the extremes of some gastropubs. GBG listed and they have four handpumps. Landlord and Ringwood Bitter were on each time with changing guests that included White Horse Wayland Smithy and Old Hooky. Reasonable prices, especially on Wednesdays when ales are £2.50 all day. I was delighted to see what they have done wirth this oft changed pub and will definitely call in again if I have the chance. | I've now been visiting this pub for about 2years. Still lovely as ever. Having the bus stop just outside is very handy! You can drink a pint while you wait and can hail the bus down from the garden. Beer is consistently good, very fews pubs in the area to rival the condition of the beers. The Landlord also runs beers fests on the Bank holidays. Pop in and check the notices for the next one. Tom34 - 13 Aug 2010 14:56 |
| Not impressed by this pub, does have a few real ales but overall not clean enough for us. Car park is small and extremely difficult to get in to. Has a small patio garden at the front right by the bus stop, a few dirty old rotting benches and some dog mess! Landlord wearing skimpy shorts (someone who doesn't care about own appearence isn't likely to care much about his pub)! Round of drinks the most expensive in our pub crawl around Harefield. davidfthorn - 26 Jul 2010 11:36 |
