| This is a great name for a pub given that when you look out from the entrance St. George’s church is on the left and the sports club’s cricket pitch is to the right. It’s a two roomed pub with separate doors as you enter. The room on the left is fairly nondescript and is full of dining tables, the pub obviously majors on food in the early evenings. The room on the right is completely different. It’s almost ecclesiastical in design with churchlike lighting, leather seats and sofas, an old bike and a piano. There’s also a mini red phone box on the bar. Slightly strangely, there’s a quiz machine in this room. I think it would fit in better next door. Four handpumps on the bar but only two on selling the inevitable Bank’s bitter along with Jennings Honey Bole. I had a pint of the Jennings which was pretty good. It’s a very smart pub, if it wasn’t nearly a mile uphill from Oakengates station I’d probably call again. ROBCamra - 18 Jun 2009 11:24 |
