Hey,

I was down here last week for a birthday on a Friday and the place was kicking, I got chatting to the new manager and he was telling me they had changed the music policy and kitchen staff and it had really picked up. Fridays are now called Friday Club and the DJ's are there from 6pm playing funk, soul, rock and some indie. The new bar staff seem full of energy and looked like they were really enjoying themselves.

Good show guys

Dark pub inside, and the decor was completely confused. Not one single theme between any 2 items anywhere. But the seats were comfey and the bar staff friendly.

I found the staff to be pleasant and although the range of draught is very limited (Staropramen, Becks Vier, Leffe and Guinness) it is looked after and served well.

There was loud R&B playing during my visit and I’m not really a fan, but the DJ did slip in a little funky house which is more up my street. There is table football, but I didn’t spot the pool tables that are mentioned by Lee.

Being a Friday evening it was fairly busy, but I got the impression that a lot of the customers were standing around waiting for tables so they could sit in their little groups so there wasn’t a great atmosphere.

This is an inoffensive bar with a mixed clientele, but I think that there are better in the area.

This Grand Union is not in Highgaten never has been & never will be, as I have tried to point out to the management...
The only bit of Highgate in the address is the building and the road, "Highgate Studio, 53-79 Highgate Road," All of which are in Kentish Town.

Previously known as the Vinum and the Highgate, the Grand Union is the pub's latest incarnation. Furnished similarly to their venue in Camden Town - that is, a mixture of sofas and tables, with comfort the order of the day. Outside seating is provided.

Beerwise, no real ale but a fair selection of draught European lagers, including one of relatively low strength. I tried Becks "Vier" which was faultless.

Full range of burgers, for which this pub group is famed, is available alongside salads and tapas.

Regular comedy and live music events are staged - check directly with the pub for details.

The Grand Union offers a pool lounge with two pool tables of the American type, currently at £1/game.

The two staff members with whom I chatted on my visit (today just after 7pm) were very friendly and customer-oriented.

Handy for meeting after the gym.
