Had a meal with a large group of people today and the food and the service was immaculate. Proper chips, all mains were good and well cooked - the fish was the size of a whale(!) and beautifully fried. The desserts were superb also. It is the sort of place that does food better during the day - at night and at weekends it does really become a football pub first & foremost, and again a good place to watch the game (needs a better main screen though). Beerwise good rather than outstanding. First port of call for me for daytime food in Barrow though.

I recently went to The Strawberry with a group of friends for a good old pre christmas dinner. It turned out to be the meal from hell! Myself and 2 others waited the entire length of a football match that was being shown at the time to be served our food, while other people on our table were 'lucky' enough to be served more than half an hour before us. At no point did the staff let me know that there would be a long wait. When I went to complain to get my money back having already waited an hour and a half, they told me the manager would be down in a couple of minutes. He finally arrived 20 minutes later ironically times with when my food arrived. The food was overcooked and had obviously come straight out of the microwave. Once I had eaten I then approached the Landlady who had now also turned up, and she barely acknowledged my existance. She was more bothered about the quiz which was just about to start than even listening to what I had to say. Well I say this: if you ever consider going to this pub for food, walk across the road to the fuel station I'm sure the food would be of a similar quality but at least you would be served in less than an hour and a half. My advice is to avoid at all costs.

PS The 1/10 I have given is because they had my favourite beer on tap!

Had dinner with workmates at The Strawberry last night. It took an hour and 30 minutes for food to arrive for two of my colleagues and myself . The general consensus among those that did get their food on time was that it was average to poor. I had the fish and chips but unfortunately the chips were very dry, cardboard-like oven chips as opposed to the real deep-fried chips that everyone else on the table had been given. I tried to speak with the manager to let him know I wasn't happy with the food and the service, to which he told me that he didn't want to talk to me, that I should "go away" and that if I didn't like it I should "get out". We then tried to talk to the landlady but she was extremely rude and would not talk to us as she was far more concerned about running the pub quiz. Neither me nor any of my colleagues have experienced such appalling customer service. There was at least one other table that had similar problems and were treated in the same way. This place is one to be avoided. The food and in particular the customer service are not even worth walking in the door for. Absolutely terrible!

Change of owners has been he making of this pub.
