Second pub on a flying visit to Scarborough. Great selection of ales and foreign beers, busy for a Tuesday night and just an all round decent boozer, shames it's 200 miles from where I live!! Alfnoax - 1 Dec 2010 21:06
A great place this, and like the Cellar's a few doors down is definately worth looking up. Rather uninspiring from the outside but very welcoming once inside. A great range of bottled lagers and as a cider drinker I was in mini heaven with the half dozen different variety's on offer, with the bar staff only too willing to let you taste before purchasing.A good mix of clientel, many appearing to be locals., with a very busy local poetry group meeting in the upstairs bar on the evening we were there. Also a pool table tucked nicely out of the way upstairs too. Will be back. anfield95 - 29 Nov 2010 12:54
Not particularly salubrious inside, bit like a tired WMC. Very hot as well when we went. Nice big outside area though – better than it looks in the picture. The beer was excellent, about 6 independents’ ales. Staff fine. Might be easy to miss if in car. Richardhuddleston - 14 Sep 2010 13:07
I was standing at the corner of a nearby road trying to examine my A-Z in the orange glow of the streetlights. I muttered to myself that no matter which way I walked up or down Valley Road, it was bound to be the wrong way. However at that point a local chap stopped and asked if I needed help (hopefully it wasn't because I was talking to myself!). I told him that I was looking for Valleys and he said there it is and pointed a few doors down the road - oops! I thanked him and headed in. It does indeed look like the bar of a guesthouse because it's in the basement. However there was a number of ales on and the atmos was quiet (it was early January afterall). Heading towards my second pint the chap from outside appeared behind the bar - the son of the owners apparently! He told me that the emphasis is on the pub rather than the hotel. A success I think - lovely place, I'd definitely return. Killian42 - 2 May 2010 16:48
