| Went back here again to give it another go. God why do I put myself through it? Souless and overpriced with no saving graces or justification for the exorbitant charges on their food and drinks. Avoid. theoneandonlyjoe - 12 Apr 2011 17:33 |
| Went here yesterday and I think it was the manager who served me. It was really great service and i'm surprised to read other people had different experiences from ours. Maybe the other staff aren't as attentive but from what I could tell they were very good. The food is over priced, but it was ok. I doubt we'd eat there again. The bottled ciders were almost £5 which seems ludicrous. superjohn - 6 Sep 2010 11:49 |
| Lovely beer garden round the back with a strange waterfeature that only serves to make you want to pee, used to drink here when it used to get clubby in the back room, has had a massively poncey make over and you can get food with jus instead of gravy and served on beds of stuff with vegetables you probably havent heard of, bit garish, great beer garden, well over priced for standard youngs beers, looks a bit like Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen has got hold of it and now the punters are paying for the thick arty wall paper and hundreds of lightbulds Nice bar staff though, really friendly and worth a visit, rammed on a sunday with media, legal types taking their mum and dads out for Sunday roast. Nice drinkers in there, unlikely to get glassed which is always nice. rovers74 - 1 Sep 2010 12:33 |
| All the previous comments seem to be spot on with this place. Youngs took a great, traditional local pub, bursting with history and character, gave it the regulation gastro-pub makeover and left us with this bland, over-priced monstrosity. Staff are at best slow and miserable, at worst surly and rude. The food is totally average and doesn't come within a mile of justifying it's price tag. Bar prices something else. The best part of £6 for a pint and half of beer. Rip off. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. This place is an over-blown, over-priced, under-performing shadow of its former self. | Bad service! Bad bad bad service!!! My friend and I took our hangovers to the Devonshire for Sunday dinner a couple of weeks ago. After ordering, we waited for an hour before we went and asked where our food was and we were told that it was being plated up 'right now'. Half an hour later there was still no food, so we went to the bar to ask again and were avoided like the plague by all of the bar staff for another 10 minutes until they couldn't avoid us any more, at which point we asked for our money back. The icing on the cake was the sticky-fingered glass collector taking my drink away before it was finished. The place is soulless, over priced and very badly managed. You're better off going to Wetherspoons. Jillsan - 14 Oct 2009 13:51 |
